don't use milk, it is bad as it could still carry bacteria. use a 1/3 teaspoon of sea salt to 1 cup (mug sized)of cooled boiled water and use cotton wool pad like you use to remove eye make up to wipe the eye wipe from corner of the eye nearest the side of the face to the nose. you need to take this furbaby to the vets asap as s/he has an infection. the third eye lid doesn't help them see at night it is how they blink

Poor thing! Sounds like conjunctivitis.
Boil the kettle, let the water cool and using cotten wool balls then bathe the eye from out the way gently towards the nose, this way you won't cause any harm or discomfort and will just remove the gunk. Use each piece only once, bin it and then wash your hands really well so as not to spread it to the other eye.
Then get the cat to a vet as soon as you can, as she may need antibiotic eye drops.
Hope she's soon ok, let us know how you get on!

get it to a vet straight away. when my cats third eye lid was showing my vet said that it was an indication that a cat was very ill and i had to take her in straight away. As it turned out she was very poorly she had a nasty virus poor thing. you can check on the net for your nearest vet or contact rspca, or cats protection, or the pdsa, they will help and advise you. You can get them all on the net. If your worried about the cost you may get help or free treatment from rspca, or pdsa, or cats protection. the vet will allso let you pay in instalments if your on a low income or benefits, they wont turn a sick cat away or any animal for that matter with out treatment. Hope this helps.

Try to clear the gunk away from around the eye but don't touch the eye. The vet will want to check for ulceration and such and if you've touched it, it may throw off the test. Cat tears are salty but I don't know how salty.
(Using salty water means the water does not conflict with the water in the eye)

She probably has pink eye. Don't mess with the eye yourself you might make it worse or spread it to the other eye. A vet will give you some eyedrops and possibly some antibiotics that will clear it right up. One of my cats had the same thing last year and it was in fact pink eye (I didn't know cats could get it but they can). She hasn't had any issues since.

If in doubt why not ring the operator and ask for the nearest RSPCA or sanctuary. Give them a ring and ask for advice until you can find a vet, they might be able to help with that problem too. Good luck.

The third eyelid is what a cat uses to see in the dark! Take her to the vet and they will tell u what to do.

Just keep using a warm damp wash cloth. It does sound like your kitten has an infection.
Good luck!

She either has a mild irritation or infection.
Bathe her eyes with warm salted water for now.
(1/3 tsp. to a cup of cooled down boiled water) Use a cotton ball,... it will soothe and help.
