On R&S I see many people debating which religion is right and which is wrong (I'm counting aethist as a religion as it is belief) and I can't help but wonder if it really matters. If you have a kind person who embodies the virtues of kindness compassion and morality found in most religions, does it matter what name they call out or which rituals they peform?

To an extent are not all religions just a path to personal development and betterment, therefore is it not more important that we are moving forward as opposed to which path we take? (rember atheism is a belief in itself and directed in the right way can lead us to the same conclusions)

I like the Idea of kindness as a religion, peace and love to all and I hope this ateast makes for a nice thought.

I totally agree with your comments. The whole arguing over the differences within the different sects of Christianity is what turned me off to it. I now follow the Buddhist path which teaches exactly what you have just mentioned, and have respect for all other spiritual paths. Love and kindness is my religion, we should all embrace the essence of all religions which is treating others the way we would want to be treated and put aside the differences and bickering. Arguing about who is right and wrong only brings harm to religion as a whole, and misses the whole point.

In the way you describe, any religion at all would indeed make the world a bit nicer to live in. However, the Lord created us with the specific purpose of caring for His earth and each other and serving Him. If we choose to worship false idols, we are disobeying our Lord and turning against Him as our father. This is a much more serious issue than just being kind and moral. Good question!

People get along with religion as long as the message is pleasing to the ears. When a real prophet stands up and begins to tell it like it is, that's when rejection takes place. I could cite passages dealt out by Jesus, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Elijah that didn't sit too well with some who heard them. In fact, they were telling people that they were just plain wrong. People don't tend to like that! lol

So as long as those who are in a 'religion' take care of the poor, give to widows, and heal the sick, the world loves them. But as soon as that gets out of focus; BAM! All of the sudden that religion is evil incarnate.

I think that Jesus said it best:
7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil. ( John 7)

And so every Christian is supposed to believe that what they do apart from God is evil. That sits well with me. But it doesn't sit well with the world.

Whatever form your belief is does not really matter, the most important factor is how convinced are you in that which you belief.

Love, kindness and peace are universal virtues which everyone should strive for, it is not a religious concept.

Thank you for posting this thoughtful question. As I wrote in answer to another question: An old Native American once told me that until we come to the understanding that each man must walk his own path there will be no peace.

Let me say this in simple way, the ends of course have something to do with the means, like machiavelli said the ends justify the means. In here in order to achieve whatever your goal is of course the means also matter. but for me for sure it is not the christian way, christianity consists lies, u cant get far with that.

On the contrary.... the goal is irrelevant.
Each of us dies some day... and we all fall into dissolution and effective non-existence irrespective of who we are or what we believe.

The only thing that really differs between us is how we live our lives along the way.... in the present.
And even that is just arbitrary data.

As your question stated, I fall in one of those many people because i am debating your point right now.
At what standard is perfection obtained in order to earn heaven or nirvana or what say you?
As a Christian, i believe that no one can be perfect or good enough. It is only by the grace of God that anyone can draw near to Him.

Your words sound wonderful but none of what you have said will get you into Heaven. Seek out a true Christian and learn about Christ and what He did for you while He was hanging on the Cross. Believe it or not He forgave you of your sins before you were even born!
