No. Why on earth would God do something like that? What kind of God would do something like that?

I believe God is angry with practically all of us since none of us is free of blame across the board. The US may be culpable for many ills but it would be wrong to infer God is doing this destruction to Southern California for the entire nation's flaws. Why not all of the US, then?

There have been reports of deliberate setting of fires in the San Diego valley (at least 5). and it is a known fact that the floods in Lousiana were more or less imminent bearing in mind the sustainability/or lack thereof of the levies.

To put it mildly, some people are falling down on their jobs and others are wilfully hurting the nation.

Just a thought!

No. God doesn't get "mad" at an arbitrarily selected piece of real estate.

Fires and floods are mostly part of nature...something we all have to deal with as the result of original sin. These things might be considered "bad" by some people, but everything happens for a reason.

All people are sinners...some more than others. Some relatively sinless people are probably suffering from the fires and floods far more than some perpetual sinners.

If God is "mad" at the United States, why would He choose to hurt some of the righteous and avoid harming some of the great sinners?

I hate to sound all 'this is the end of the world', but yes, I do believe that God is angry with us. If you read outside the Bible a bit, Mary has sent apparitions to people, saying that God is angry and that the end of the world will come because he is so angry. Also that he will send natural disasters near the end. I am not saying that the US is the place which God is angry with, but He has so much to be angry with. So much killing and such evil in the world.

It sounds terrible to say that God is an angry God, but I believe that he is also very forgiving and loving, however, we as the people he chose to care for the world, have done it much damage.

I am very happy if anyone wishes to disagree, this is just my opinion!

Well the United States has turned its back on God and had become a Godless society and is not living for God like they once did.
Yes I do believe God does what He can to get our attention. But do people pay attention ?

BTW, there is a lot more happening than just the fires and floods that point to this possibly being the time of the USA's punishment"

It wasn't God who started the fires but a human being. The floods are a natural phenomenon caused most likely by the greenhouse effect.

Might this be part of the answer?

Matthew 24:3-8 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?" (4) Jesus answered them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray. (5) For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will lead many astray. (6) You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren't troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet. (7) For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places. (8) But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.

No, it is a wildfire. They get them every season and this is just much much worse than normal because of the droughts.

There are some of the barking mad fundies blaming it on the gays already though.
I have already ran into some of them posting in here.
The fundies seem to be able to draw on an infinitely deep well of insanity.

I think you would be more apt to blame mother nature than god.
And why single out the united states???? Mud slides in southeast asia not to mention tsunamis .... typhoons and monsoons crushing japan and china. Earthquakes in japan every day.

God has nothing to do with this :)
