It may be because I live in the Bible Belt but I only know two or three (at the most) atheists or agnostics in real life. The remainder of my friends are Christians, or indentify themselves as such. I'd like to have more friends 'in real life' who share my beliefs but there don't seem to be too many of us in my neck of the woods.

How about you guys?

Dr. What - You misunderstood my question completely. I am an atheist. Yeah, you're very intelligent...

When I lived in California (about 10 years ago) I had about six atheist/agnostic friends and one Wiccan (whose parents were strict Catholics). Everyone else I knew claimed either Christianity or Islam. Since I've been living on the East Coast, I don't have any. I see the FSM bumper stickers and car magnets as well as the Darwin fish with feet from time to time, and it makes we want to honk my horn while screaming "Pull over! Please!" in an attempt to speak with someone sane, but actions like that tend to scare people so I just let that little part of me that get's exited about that tiny, shiny little glimmer of hope die quietly as they drive off, all the while listening to my wife tell me what she's praying for and how much I need Jesus. Such is the life of a non-theistic person in a predominantly theistic society.

I know roughly the same number of atheists or agnostics (3-4). My closest friend, whom I love dearly, is openly atheist - and my other very close friend, whom is more like family, is agnostic. So, I surround myself well. There is one other that I know is agnostic, not because she labels herself that, but because I've known her my whole life and am quite aware of her "views". One other is most likely an atheist, due to comments I've overheard, but I could be wrong. However, that's just the ones I know for sure. I don't make a point of asking peoples views on religion "in real life", so I imagine there could be more. I "wonder" about a few others. Maybe now I'll ask! On the flip side, I'm the only person in my family (or extended family -- and there are a lot of them) who is not Christian and I crave the company of those that aren't preaching to me, feeling sorry for my soul that is bound to burn in hell-fire, spamming me with 20 "prayer" emails a day or trying to bring me into the "holy-fold". Which is probably why I spend too much time here... lol

I am not atheist but I seem to only date atheists. My ex husband is atheist. My current boyfriend is atheist. A few guys i dated before meeting my ex husband were atheist.

Its not a requirement it just happens that way. I find a guy I really like and he turns out to be Atheist.

I have never met another agnostic in real life though.

I know seven Christians. One from Canada, and six from the US. Everybody I really hang out with are outspoken atheists. In Holland we have a Bible Belt with Christians every bit as fundamentalist as the worst you have, but for the most part, this is a pretty atheist country, and most who do believe, are more into somethingism.

Christy,
if you socialize, you will run into a lot more them and that is how you find them.

If I was an atheist, I would be cautious if someone came up to me and said, are you an atheist. I would think they were nuts or worse, wanting to be friends.

I'm sure you will find them, you just have to make a lot of contacts. You will also find that a lot of people who call themselves christians are only that because it serves them well in business. You see the little signs, we practice a christian business ethic, ask the employees if that is true.

I wish you success, but you will have to just meet people to find them.

I don't know how many exactly, because it's not often a topic. The people I hang out with, well, we tend to make fun of old sci-fi movies more than talk religions.

I know of five atheists (my boyfriend and his family, lol) and quite a few agnostics. The religiously apathetic people I know tend to be agnostic than non-church going Christians.

I know only three well. And a few more that I'm only acquainted with and whom I have no desire for further contact with. But I know plenty of agnostics, and I live on the edge of the Bible Belt. And, of course, I know quite a few online.

When u ask anyone what is their religion they will prolly say something other than an atheist. Most will prolly say they are Christians even though they do not go to Church or maybe only during Chrismas.

Me, I know lots of guys & gals who are atheist,,,but then again I live in Sin City,,,

Just a few because many of the people who I know can't be identified as Atheists or Holies . When religion is not discussed , there is no way of telling one from the other .
Also , many will not make a big thing about their Atheism because they're so outnumbered - - - but that's changing .

I'm in California. And a particularly diverse and liberal part of California at that. So there's probably a much higher concentration of freethinkers in my area. In the "meat world", I have four friends who identify as agnostics and two as atheists. And it seems like the people I know who do identify as Christians are at best half-hearted about it.
