I know that there are many support groups for spouses of someone in the military and they are very close and don't always always girlfriends to join in. I have looked on line for groups for me to join since I am a girlfirend of an Airmen but have not been able to find one I may be using the wrong search terms. Are there any that you can recomend? I am asking for two reasons one is right now we are not in the same state and I do worry about him currently he is not deployed but I will be moving down to be with him, he is stationed at Vance and would like to be a part of one when he does deploy out next year and to get to know some people who honestly understand what I am going through. Right now we don't plan on getting married anytime soon but I love him and kinda feel its wrong not to be able to be included in a support group just because I don't have the paper saying we are married. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You might want to ask him to check with his chain of command and see if they have a FRG (Family Support Group) that way you can meet some of the wives etc. and get some information. However like someone mentioned without actually being a spouse you might get limited help.
If not have your bf go to www.militaryonesource.com and try to find a support group.
Good luck to you both.

Search places like Yahoo Groups and MySpace groups and you might find some that are local for Vance. Or search for all military or general Air Force groups in google. Go ahead and use the term "military/Air Force spouse group". Most of the on line groups I've joined, especially the local ones, have a questionnaire that asks for basic information on you. That's where you put that you're a girlfriend/fiance and ask if it's alright to join in. Or put it in your introduction if they don't have a questionnaire. The group management will let you know if it's OK or not.

I know myspace often has groups for girlfriends/boyfriends of military members. Specific bases and units probably will not though. OPSEC is a very important issue, and due to the fact you guys aren't legally married, you're not technically allowed access to all the information that spouses get in normal family support groups. If you can't find a group on myspace, you could create one. It would definitely be a good way to meet people in similar situations, but like I said, you won't be recognized by the base or unit as official due to OPSEC.

It never hurts to get in touch with his unit's family support group. Some will not allow girlfriends, but others welcome them.

There are several groups geared towards girlfriends on myspace and militarywives.com has forums for girlfriends as well.
