Pakistan per say did not have a war of independence. The people of Pakistan (the previous generation, the surviving lot of which are at least great grand parents) did. India and Pak were 1 and the same country and share the same history (struggles, turmoils, victories, defeats), and the 1st war of Independence was fought in 1857 (Read 'The last mughal). That is where the actual seeds of religious discord were sown (by the british). Thereafter, they continued there struggle (meek and disoriented...as is the wont with the people of the sub-continent), till a Gandhi came across, and gave meaning to the whole loss of life and limb, and that is when the deciding struggle for Independence was fought. Jinnah, a trusted lieutenant of Gandhi, and a patriot, for various reasons (he was no Nostradamus, and could not have predicted the future) thought it wise that India and Pakistan should be separate nations, and there commenced a struggle within a struggle....

15 Aug 1947 is when India and Pakistan became separate entities and have been fighting each other ever since, especially in Kashmir.
