No, they do not have the intelligence to think about things beyond where their next meal is coming from, let alone existence and spirituality.

Of course not. God is an invention by group or tribal leaders to try and explain to their followers why and how humans exist. They had no idea of our modern research into DNA and evolution so they did the best they could. At the same time if they were convincing enough, and we know from peoples blind belief in what they said even today that they were, it assisted them is keeping political control of their group or tribe. As far as we can tell no other animal has evolved enough to need an explanation of their existence. If a pet dog appears to be reacting to some sort of religious stimulus he is probably just reacting to his pack leaders reaction and as far as he is concerned his pack leader is his owner. Dolphins are highly intelligent and humans can communicate with them to a limited extent but not yet sufficient to discuss such philosophical matters as the meaning of life
Goodness me you have got some right stupid answers up to now

Koontz wrote a book about a boy and a dog. My old mind just can't remember the name.
Pure fantasy and I don't believe in aliens, but the dog and others in the story is exactly what I would want for an animal.
Beautiful thought and feeling from this horror writer. Especially about dogs.

Humans are animals, so it would be "yes".... but for there being nothing to realise so much as "assume".
And animals can also realise the lack of god.

Most of the animals, except for the preditors, only think about what they are going to eat next, screw next, and how to get away from danger. Kind of like the French. They have no concept of death, therefore, need no concept of God.

In the bible it says a mule wouldn't go any further on this road with its master, but the master kept pulling and tugging.
The mule never moved only, because he saw what his master couldn't. There was an angel with a sword guarding that path.
