I've read the bible cover to cover to cover to cover, and anyone who has, can agree that it's not fun at all to read....Wouldn't an all powerful, all knowing, all good deity be a better writer?
Why couldn't he write it in language that children can understand, and enjoy reading, easily, with no need for translations?
don't tell me "there are bibles for children" because according to you, that isn't written by god, only the kjv, niv, and whatever other version is....

I tried reading it, starting from Genesis and Oh, my Isis-I couldn't do it. So, I randomly read books out of order...then I found out there are many different versions with different words b/c the translations are different. I read about how each name in the OT attributed to the Satan character are actually the names of different kings or gods of different tribes-the only thing they have in common is that they weren't from the Israeli tribe...then I saw a 'Children's Bible' and instead of it correctly saying that a talking snake tempted Eve, it totally misinterpreted it and said the NT character Satan (who's not even in the OT) was the guy. (The 'satan' in Job is an anti-human angel, the Satan in the NT is an anti-God angel)
I guess with the right agent and some PR person to explain that the Buy-bull is not literal, it might be made to be more entertaining.
Edit: I read part of that Ezekial thing...Ugh. It doesn't even seem real and, even if that version is technically English, I'm not even sure if certain words still have the same 'meaning'.

Dose anyone know that language the Bible was written in. If not, it was written in the Greek language of the 1st century. That language became a dead language after the New Testament was written I think it was two hundred years after. So we have the language from then and we also know the meaning of every word that the New Testament was written in. WE can know just what God wants us to do alike with unity.
We can get the definitions from other books that used the same language.
Just keep reading the Bible and let the words speak to you. We live under the New Testament so read it. Then go to the Old Testament. I sometimes feel it is boring to.

I don't think the Bible is suppossed to be "fun" to read. It is there to edify you and instruct you in your path. The bibles for children are perfectly fine I don't know who the "you" in "according to you" , you were referring to , but unless it's the 'satanic bible for kids', I don't think anyone who loves God would object to any childrens Bible. I read a teen NIV Bible because the language is way more current and it has the same stuff in it as the King James as far as I'm concerned. If you're looking for a fun time though, you won't find it by reading the Bible, but you will find out how to be a better person.

Hmm, I never knew the Bible had four covers. And I have to disagree. I think the Bible's a great read. I mean, it's got everything: sex, violence, good guys and gals with flaws, bad guys and gals with redeeming features. It's got God and the Devil, heaven and hell, angels, saints and sinners, Creation and Armageddon, with awesome special effects.
I mean, really - what more could you want?
Besides, even if someone is a "true believer", he/she knows that the Bible wasn't actually "written" by God; it was (according to revelation) only "inspired" by Him/Her/It. And look at all the other books, not to mention movies and TV shows that have spun off from the Bible.
As to why it's not written in a way "that children can understand", well, with all those XXX-rated characters and situations, would you really want children to be reading it?

In prayer ask God to open your understanding and read again. Try to tie the Old Testament with the new such as Psalms 22 with the crusifiction of Christ. Or Daniel and Revelation. Or read Genesis and compare to science (see which is a more complete definition after assumptions are stripped away). Try to understand God by interpreting the Bible without present social beliefs or church doctrines. My friend it is not boring. Read Luke 24:45 and understand scripture can only be understood if God opens it.

You seem to have missed out on much.
The Bible isn't like any other piece of mere literature, and cannot really be read like it is.
If you have a relationship with God, not just a head knowledge, it comes alive to the reader.
Have you ever wondered how different preachers come up with different sermons from the very same verse, or section of scripture? They aren't making things up...it's really all in there, if they follow the proper method of interpretations.
You can read it with an eye towards the historical angle, cultural, spiritual, and with word studies it gives even deeper understanding. There are other ways. Boring, it never is.

I enjoy the bible. I didn't read it growing up. But after God healed me from a breakdown & then Mormons & JW's came over & confused me about what the bible said, I had questions for God.
So? I asked God questions for clarity. And I was gifted with a King James bible & then I purchased a Strongs Exhaustive with the root Hebrew & Greek bible words & definitions. And I did word searches on the question. I was in the bible for hours until God gave me yet another answer.
I was looking for answers. Maybe you just aren't interested in finding God or having answers to questions. You were reading it because you felt you had to. Usually when people are first saved, they get into spiritual battle & need to have answers & so ask God & then God leads them into His Word where they find the answers.

Any bible that you may have read is a translation of many different documents that were originally written is several different languages including Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. The different versions of the modern bible are not only translations, they are also interpretations. What you have read is not what the original authors wrote.
Having said that, the bible is not the word of a god. It is a conglomeration of writings gathered together my a human to suit the purposes of mankind.

You must study the bible, not just read it.
You need a Companion bible to study (King James with notes and appendixes by E.W. Bullinger originally published in 1922) This bible can be bought on Amazon.com.
Also a Strong's concordance helps which translates the Hebrew and Greek words into their original meaning.
But most helpful to me personally is the following:
I found Shepherd's Chapel on Television and on the internet to be extremely helpful as the pastors just go through the bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter only. No sermons just explanations and answers to questions.
Not their words but God's words.
Also, they sell tapes, CDs, videos (not expensive). Look in you tv listings or type in SC on google for more info. It is on the internet also, and you can listen to their broadcasts over the computer! They have all the books of the bible for sale.
This is my experience. I also read the bible 2x almost, and it wasn't until I "studied" it that I understood it.
It is life changing and living, but you must not just read, but study. It is a fascinating book!

If you read that bible cover to cover then you should know that the bible was not written by God, think about it. It's all about what he did and everything that happened but he didn't write it. Also I have a children's bible from when I was younger that very well explains the basics. When I got older and knew more words and understood more, that's when I graduated to the regular bible. The bible is the truth, it's not fun but to me it is very interesting and I love reading from it..........I hope that explained some of your questions.
