"Kelly's Heroes" is my favourite war film of all time. Basically a spaghetti western set in the 1940s (WW2) with Clint Eastwood as Kelly, who takes his men on a private mission behind enemy lines to steal Nazi gold.

Donald Sutherland is brilliant as the tank commander who is a hippie before his time ("cut out the negative waves man").

Saving Private Ryan, both the tv series and the movie, and Downfall, a film about Hitler.

One of my favorites is "Kelly's Heroes" with Clint Eastwood. Its not a war movie in your typical sense of the word but it is very good and funny. There are many more good ones but you limit yourself when you say no black and white.
