it's physiologically impossible to sport reduce fat stores through diet or exercise. when body fat is reduced it does so from all over the body in accordance from instructions given by your individual genetics. fat gets stored in the abdominal region first and for most this is the last place for fat to be released from.

Unfortunately, despite many claims to the contrary, spot reducing is just not possible.
I recently read an article (sorry, can't remember where) about a study that was searching for this same answer. They found that regular aerobic exercise (just walking!) did more for the abdominals than sit-ups or crunches.
That being said, however, I would recommend you incorporating a regular exercise routine into your life. Even it's a long walk after dinner 3 times a week it's better than nothing. I go to Curves, which is a women's fitness center offering a 30 minute workout. Granted, it's not the best in the world, but I've been doing it consistently for over 3 years - and that's better than the best fitness routine for only 6 months!
And there's nothing wrong with trying to work those abs - despite what the study says. I would recommend an exercise ball. You get more muscle action because you are trying to maintain your balance while doing the crunches. You can buy the balls at any sports store or at places like Target or K-Mart. The usually have instructions included.
Good luck!

While you can't spot reduce, if you work your abs right (and perfect your posture) you can reduce the appearance of your tummy.
Besides crunches, do ab exercises which specifically target the lower abs (such as leg raises). Also, do The Plank, as it works the muscles which keep your tummy sucked in (the transverse abdominis).
If you do that, while you'll still have fat on your tummy, it will be much harder to see (since you'll be standing up straighter and your abs will be sucked in tighter).

if its water retention, do like one of my friends did and get a bodywrap done..it won't make you "lose weight" however it will allow you to lose inches off your body and have smoother skin as well. Check it out! She is slim for her height but she has a little bit of tummy and the bodywrap helped her. However bodywraps do cost prob. around $120 or higher depending who u go to and what u get done. Hope this helps!!

I have the same problem.
It's genetics which really stinks :-(
Even when I was anorexic and super skinny I still had a little pouch. If you find a way to get rid of it let me know!!!

It could be water retention or just plump. Do 100 sit ups daily and within weeks it should tighten up the muscles
