Do you have some legitimate claim that they have money that belongs to you?

If it's an inheritence, there should be a trust, and there would be legal papers regarding that trust. Most often, though, the money is held in a trust until a certain time, usually around the 21st birthday, so that you're old enough to not blow it.

If it's something like child support, most of the time, the kid never actually sees the money. The purpose of it is not to be able to get to have lots of spending money, it is to be used to pay for necessities for you, like a house, a car (not yours -- the custodial parent can use some of the child support $$ to get a car so that they can take you to school, get medical care, etc.), insurance, electricity, food, clothing, etc.

Where did the money come from?

You need to specify the source or why you think you have money coming to you. Is it an inheritance or a settlement for damages? Is it a trust fund? An education fund? Was it gifts of money from relatives?
Is it an insurance payout perhaps from when you were young? Is it money you earned like by being a child star.
You need to start at the source.
You need the facts. For example If you were awarded 100 thousand for an injury when you were young and all of the money was spent on your medical care then you don't have anything coming.
If your parents promised money they can change their mind but if a trust fund was set up I'm not sure if they can hold that from you.

Do you mean like child support that was supposed to go to you? If that's the situation, you can ask the other parent or see if you can go through the court system. Otherwise, see if you can find out the source of the money and ask there.

HTH!

If this is an inheritance held in trust until a certain age then there is legal trust paperwork that would clarify. If this is just something that they promised you, then they have the right to change their mind and not give it to you for what ever reason they want.
