LOL - my neighbor in the office is playing a good rendition of Amazing Grace right now and I'm totally feeling it. So, is this God's way of communicating with me?

Regardless of your beliefs the older hymns were just written well. Newton, Watts, Wesley, Crosby knew how to write. It's probably the poetry part of you responding.

That song and many of the older hymns are very inspirational on several levels, heartfelt lyrics, emotional music, and often inspired by very trying times. Truly they show the steadfast emotional side of Christianity.

But is it communication from god, probably not as you may feel the same way with any heartfelt, inspirational music. I hate being clinical when people feel inspired, but it is an emotion like any other and is not an indication that god exists. The reasons why not are that all religions have similar song and/or rituals that have been tuned through time to speak to their culture; we are sensitive to music and strongly associate it to various emotions - watch a movie for the first time without sound, it will not have the same emotion impact.

An agnostic ,so I'm on the fence about it.... but here goes.
Being an athiest or agnostic does not preclude you from being moved in a "spiritual "sense.
If you feel that the "wretch" being saved is you it might mean that you see love, in whatever form can heal or give comfort to anyone who has "faith" or not.
There can be connection to one's spiritual sense ( inner self ?)without God.
Respect for each other, love , sharing & just plain human decency are just as much a part of a non believer's life as anyone elses, without the entanglement of the hypocricy practiced in so many "churches"

It is a very good song. I love a good guitarist playing it as an instrumental. Willie Nelson has a very good instrumental version of Just As I am on his Rd Headed Stranger album.

I still like a good hymn. I love spirituals like Johnny Cash's Peace in The Vally and Peter Paul and Mary's This Train. You don't have to be Christian to enjoy a good song.

I have always loved that song, no matter what religion I was practicing at the time. Something about no matter how bad off you are you are not without hope is truly reassuring. Also hearing played on the pipes off in the distance while you are looking at a fog covered lake with the son coming up is a spiritual experience in itself.

It could be. I like the song, not just for it's spiritual significance but because of it's beauty and melodic complexities. It is soothing and catchy at the same time. If you need someone to talk to regarding God's touch, email. If not, enjoy the music.

I love old-school religious music too!

But it's just because of how nice it sounds. "Amazing Grace" is a simple number, which is often done with very real emotion. I like music which inspires emotion.

Who is to say, He may be communicating with you. I love the song too. It is about the only song I can sing well.
I also love the Christmas song "Oh Come, Oh Come Emanuel. "

It is a beautiful song. Many songs from many different religions feel special to me. You don't necesarily need to believe in deity to enjoy music that was written for or about one.

In my opinion, God is Love.

You don't have to believe in God...God has nothing to do with choosing a religious "club" to belong to. That's a political phenomenon.

But remember...God believes in YOU.

Feeling love is the direct power of God.....when you felt that music....you felt God. Don't worry about joining a church and their ever-changing rules. Just believe in God.
