ok..I am not too crazy about the american cancer society which is why i chose not to donate to any of the charities events sponsoring them. has anyone else felt this way, and what can you do rather than donating money to help out? I DO feel very bad for cancer people as i have had many friends who have been through it, and I know it is a sad thing. i just dont agree with the ACS. what real things can i do that will ensure getting closer to cancer patients being cured? it makes me sad that people are dying and suffering so much from this disease, but it has been over 50 years of them "researching" cancer, and I believe this is all a big scam. is it a hopeless cause or what?

Hopeless cause as they have no intention of ever curing any cancer as long as they can make new drugs for people to buy to treat cancer. US Govt has given about 40 million per year for 40 years and no cures and public through breast, colon, and other types of cancers and cancer charities give about 60 million per year and no one has done anything to cure it. They just want to make a new vaccine to treat it and make billions for the drug. It is a scam as is all other races for the cure charities. Greed, power, and money is all they want to promote.

Not sure what your issue is with the American Cancer Society as they are primarily a supportive group for patients with cancer. They are enormously helpful on the local level.

Anyway, there are many other types of organizations that support cancer research, such as CureSearch which is dedicated to ending all childhood cancers.

There are the Ronald McDonald Charities which are a godsend to families who live great distances from a hospital and often must live for months away from home. We have stayed there along with many other families with children. RMC are wonderful and they always need money:

Make a Wish grants a wish to a child or teen with a life threatening disease. it is often the one positive experience during a horrific time. It takes about $5000 to grant a wish and no child is ever turned away. Our sons wish came just as he was about to face major surgery and continues to have an impact on his life.

My son is currently in a research program at a major university. He has a rare abdominal sarcoma. There is currently no funding for his type of cancer, yet his doctors and research clinica are doing all they can to halt the progession of disease. He has been on an experimental new drug that is taken on a daily basis. The drug targets the tumor cells specifically and unlike regular chemotherapy . . there are no side effects (except his hair turned white - the drug affects pigmentation). I am sorry that you do not believe that cancer research is important as I believe that the eventual 'cure' will come through the Clinical Trial process of trial and error.

There are many ways to help the less fortunate. If you don't do ANYTHING through personal contributions of money or time, then yeah, I think you will reap some bad karma. But just choosing to avoid one particular charity. Nah!

Realistically, the process of cancer cell production is an unavoidable by-product of cell metabolism. It's just when the body is not able to keep the production down to a manageable level, that you have a disease process, i.e, a cancer. That is one reason finding a "cure" is problematic, versus finding a treatment once the cancer has occurred.

While I would never advocate stopping cancer research, I think more attention needs to be given to finding ways to keep the immune system functioning at an optimal level (diet, supplements, and other mind/body therapies) in order to naturally keep cancer cell production under control.

To start with, cancer is a very intractable disease(variuos forms of it and stuff) and researching and finding a cure for it could be very tedious and near impossible, seriusly.

If you don't agree with the modus oparandi -mode of operation (MO) of ACS, I guess it's ok. The good thing's that you have the right feelings towards the debilitating nature of cancer(s).

However, I am sure there are societies/groups/associations out there that are dedicated to helpig cancer patients cope with the disease. You could look to donating time and or money to help 'em out.

Donation doesn't have to be money. Time can also be donated...helping to drop off the children of a cancer patient in school could be a place to start. Visiting with such people would be equally satisfying.

Hope this helps.

well, some things you could do is personally go to a hospital and spend time with the very sick patients, or do something like make gift baskets for them, food, etc.

my aunt had cancer and it's a very serious disease. she had chemo and got even more sick from that then the cancer had made her. that is why i dont support chemotherapy or any of that weird stuff. i think cancer can probably be cured naturally and painlessly, but the government and ACS doesnt want us to know that. they act as if they can only treat the disease with radiation and drugs, and there is no cure for it. but i know thats not true. i wish people would start spreading the truth out there about cancer. maybe you can do something like hand out flyers about cancer myths and all. people might think your crazy but hey, if it gets people's attention you are doing something to help and spread awareness, and you wouldnt have to donate your money.

My husband and that i've got the two been homeless or with a house yet too poor to purchase lots nutrition (in spite of foodstamps) and we went to the nutrition banks for 'donated nutrition' ... maximum OF IT became no longer good nutrition ... human beings supply 'old' cans they might desire to throw away, broken (smashed) pasta, mixed dried beans that want diverse quantities of soaking and cooking time ... even vegetables they do no longer desire to consume simply by fact they are wilted and dried out. once I supply to a foodbank (which we do in many cases) i flow to the shop and purchase NEW fundamentals ... bins of pasta (the terrific they have, too), NEW cans of nutrition, sparkling flour, sparkling vegetables, canned meat and canned juices, toddler nutrition in all varieties ... then I take it and drop it off with a 'i'm hoping this permits' and a great smile ... if I draw close around, I tell the human beings who we as quickly as have been the place they are, and we've money now, so we are only 'paying back' what we've been given ... and individuals postpone their heads and think of that they are in basic terms 'down for awhile' particularly of being 'down continuously' ... it is not egocentric to feed a guy or woman who desires nutrition ... an old guy or woman, a worker, a mom, a father, a newborn ... human beings should flow to mattress FEELING finished AND understanding they'll GET finished the following day, WEEK, MONTH, 365 days. Donate good nutrition (whether it means you may desire to consume slightly much less for an afternoon or 2 a month) and the international would be a greater suited place for anybody!

It is your choice; there are tens of thousands of charities and you can't support them all. It makes no difference to your life apart from making you feel good from helping someone.

Absolutely not. I admire you for your stance. And back you. The use of the monies appropriated for this issue is merely for personal gain. Not global. Good for you.
