I don't think that anyone can say that there's a "best" war.
However, the most influential war was World War II, with it's rapid advance in technology.
Generals? Hannibal comes to mind...Alexander, also. For World War II, Patton would be my choice.

The.U.S. Civil War was both devastating and world shaping too. It kept the union together and the US today is arguably the greatest country in history. Had the US been split back then, maybe Hitler would have won WW II - but who knows.
The best General of that War, or any war, arguably was Robert E. Lee. It was argued, by his opponents, that when he was leading, his presence on the field was worth over 50000 troops. That is how good he was.

The Revolutionary War. This war enabled America to become a Christian nation without forcing religion. It gave power to the citizens and not the government. America has since helped more nations and people than any other nation combined.
We are getting to the point where America may require another Revolution. Our government continues to work for themselves and for their power.
Entitlements have taken away personal responsibility which made this country great. Taking religion and prayer out of school was the beginning of our potential downfall. We need to get back to what the founders wanted when they signed the Declaration of Independence. Personal responsibility and Judaeo-Christian principles.

I don't think any war is good but some have been fought to help oppressed nations unable to help themselves. I think that Desert storm was a well thought out and executed war that when it was over achieved all of its goals. And I think Colin Powell was one if not the best all around general America has ever had.

I would have to say the Desert Fox "ROMMEL." Held off many attacks and outnumbered many of times..
But the most important factor in winning wars is "Logistics."
The supply lines were cut, thus no fuel for vehicles and no food for soldiers and etc..

The French Revolution, of course.
Actual, real people took control. It was insanity and horrifically bloody - but real people threw the Aristocrats right out on their as$.
