I gave just a general statement about me being a Christian and getting a tattoo today. I had a couple people ask what it is a tattoo of...it'll be 8 Christian fish with a cross. Basically 4 fish on one side of the cross, then a cross, then 4 fish on other side...it's an arm band.

The comment was made, and sounded something like, "how will a non-Christian know you're a Christian if they see you have a tattoo?" Would there be any doubt after seeing a Christian fish and cross tattoo banded around my arm?

Now, with that given information, would you see me (a Christian) getting a tattoo (of a symbol of Christ) wrong?

Leave it alone. Settle for God putting his mark on you which, by the way, is invisible (Rev. 3:12).

Tattoos are not Christian, whatever they depict. They come from an entirely different culture. If a Christian gets tattooed, he is not telling people that he is a Christian, he is telling people that he is 'religious' and that he needs to get a tattoo to say what his life isn't. Great big ornamental crosses say the same.

Settle for a little fish symbol on a chain round your neck if you have to wear something that tells the world about your faith. Put it the right way up.

Christianity - in its truest form - is not a faith of symbols, marks, images or outward signs. That's why the world has a problem recognising who we are, because we don't 'dress up' and put on things to show everbody whose side we're on. If we do, it's an aberration.

Look at the Early Church. It was so simple. Christ was in their hearts by faith and everybody knew who they were because of the holy lives which they led and the love they had for one another.

An ornament of a meek and quiet spirit is in the sight of God of great value (I Peter 3:4).

I personally believe that there is nothing wrong with tattoos. Yes the old testament said to not defile our bodies but you have to remember there were customs and traditions enforced at that time. That argument doesn't work- it's funny how everyone always brings up that one but never any of the other laws they had at the time.
Jesus came and said there are only 2 things to do. Proclaim Jesus as your personal savior and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I don't think God sees anything wrong with tattoos. No one makes a fuss out of earrings. No one says anything about dyeing your hair. Oh wait, you can't possibly believe in God if you pick pink, but blonde or brown that's OK.
And to the guy who said you can't go to a gentleman's club to spread the word - You know Jesus hung out with a pretty seedy group spreading His word.
OK, I think your tattoo will be a great conversation starter and be an asset to your own ministry! God Bless!

I personally do not like tattoos, but in my opinion it's not wrong for a Christian to get one, unless it's vulgar or disrespectful. I know there are OT restrictions on it, but we as Christians are not under Law, but under grace. If I ever find something in the NT that says it is wrong, then I will research it and alter my beliefs.
As for how I treat people with tattoos, I treat them the same as I treat anyone else.

Being a Christian, you should consider your body to be a sacred dwelling of Christ. So then, tattoos are not tolerated- even "Christian-looking" ones.

The sign of the cross (the action itself) is the mark of a true Christian and the acts of love toward others.

First you are a human being, irreguardless of having a tattoo or not. You want to show pride in you religious beliefs and that is great. Would I treat you any different? not in the least. Is it wrong? No, not by a long shot.

i'm so sick of all these 'rules' imposed on people just because they identify with a group -- and just exactly WHO, by the way might i ask, decides if they're 'right' or 'wrong'? how do we know they're 'right' or 'wrong'????

i chose to stop identifying with any sort of a group -- i was 'christian' for many years (raised catholic, 'converted' to baptist after being 'saved') but i became so sick of all the intolerance with every group....'why can't we all just get along?' -- i am not catholic, not baptist, not christian of any sort, not atheist, and not agnostic...I AM ME and i believe what I believe to be MY truth for MYSELF

if you want to get a tattoo, get one of whatever you choose, WHEREever you choose and don't worry about what ANYone says...it's YOUR body!!!

lighten up out there everyone...let us be free to be who we are...OKAY????

Regardless of what the tattoo is.....it's still a tattoo.

Would it be right for me to go into a gentlemans' club to try to win souls for Christ?

Of course not........

I'm not going to tell you what's right or wrong.

I'll reiterate that I think all tattoos are ugly.
