To the best of my knowledge.......yes. There are procedures and a operation that can prolong life. It`s called the "Whipple" procedure. My grandmother had this done and survived 6 years. The doctors only gave her 5 yrs to live.

Is Pancreatic Cancer Terminal

In the late stages where 95% of the cases are discovered,... there's less than a 1% survival rate of 2 years even with the most aggressive treatments.

The 5% that have it detected before it starts to spread have better odds, 5 years or more,.... but the most common form of the disease has a very nasty tendency to grow back.

In a sense,.. I guess you could say it is. It's a question of how long you can hang on and how early it's caught.

The one thing I learned as the child of a pancreatic cancer victim is that you just live each day that comes. You don't dwell on what's at the end. That gives the patient a measure of comfort and peace.

I had hoped in the 3 years since the disease killed my mother there would have been leaps and bounds made in research. Maybe now that Congress has designated November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, there will be more money put towards research to finding viable treatments, and maybe a cure.

I love how people say no it's not always terminal, but it really is...it just may not be right away terminal. Don't get me wrong there is some hope, but you have to keep your hope at a realistic level. My mother was just diagnosed a month ago with pancreatic cancer, stage 4. The whipple procedure was not an option for her - which is misleading, because about only 10 % of those diagnosed with PC are eligible for the whipple procedure. She is continually getting no's...no we can't do this, we can't do that, it wouldn't be worth it to do this...etc. She is trying chemotherapy to melt away some of the disease, and we will go from there. They gave her an average of 3 to 4 months, even with treatments...so my suggestion to you is DO THE RESEARCH!!!!!!!! It's one of the hardest things to read, especially if it's about you or a loved one, but you have to do it, in order to be able to ask the questions....remember it's life or death here.

I'm having a hard time understanding why someone with terminal cancer joins this forum (yesterday), with a hidden profile and private q&a page, just to ask this type of question. But, to answer..... you're a grown up and they have to accept your refusal whether they want to or not. What pancreatic cancer were you diagnosed with?

Not always no - it doesn't have good survival rates at all, but each case is different. I know someone who made a complete recovery (10 yrs and still going strong), but this is fairly rare.

Each human being is different, their body, their strength, their health, so even while the prognosis isn't good for this type of cancer, never give up hope.....hope is key to healing....

According to recent figures 92 to 95 % of PC's are terminal. The classical surgery is the a or b Whpple resection according to the location of the tumor.
But even with this surgery the prognosis is not good.

After my dad was diagnossed with pc, he was given 6 months - 2 years to live. He died within 6 months. This website is a board that people that have the cancer, and family members talk on. It's Johns Hopkins and they are one of the best hospitals in the world. I went on here during my months of research on how to help my dad. The people there are very nice, and very helpful. Please feel free to email me if you want to talk.
