the greatest things in life are not things is what it means to me

The greatest things in life are not things. Things is such a open word that leaves questions mark behind it. Life is more than nice cars, fancy clothes, being rich and etc. Life is what you make it an how you made it. Life is the fresh air that you breath and the freedom you have. The bible talks about what good does it do for a man to gain the whole world and loose his own soul . Something like that, but in so many words life is being happy and knowing who you are. If you did not have things , what would you do to make yourself happy? Just like you have things it can all be taken away in a split of a sec.

It means that not all that is great in life are material things or things that can be seen, felt or touched. Take love, for example. Love is the greatest gift God has given mankind, it is the greatest thing a man gives to a woman or vice versa. The love of a mother or father to her/his child...etc. It is an emotion, a feeling that is unseen but you know is real because you sense it.

Love and happiness are not "things" and they are two of the greatest gifts in life, which proves this statement to be true

if things mean material things then I agree with the statment. Sure object can make you happy but it is short lived for example a car, it eventually breaks down, gets old, replaced for a new model, while non material objects,' things that money can't buy' like feelings, friends and family are longed lived and I value more! I also hold these non material things to my heart in my sad moment it is my family and friends their love and support for me that keeps me going, not my expensive shoes lol!

it depends on your definition of a thing.
is a thing an inanimate object, or can a thing be the way you feel when you help somebody in need?
The greatest things in life could possibly be intangible, but i say that intangibles ARE things, so off the bat, i am in disagreement with your statement that proceeds your question.

"Thing" meaning material things, like money, type of car or house, jewelery, etc. The greatest things in life are abstract things, things you can't literally hold like love, joy, and happiness.

the only thing that we get to keep are our memories and feelings; we leave all things behind ; at the end of the road, it isn't going to matter what we have; it is going to matter, what we did or didn't do ; the people that we love; the forgiveness that we should have shown to others; the compassion etc ; like the song by Tim McGraw , live like you were dying.
