i think there needs clarification on this...i would agree that the speed zone restriction ends at the end sign; the same as at a construction zone sign limiting you to 25 mph or whatever. the next sign usually says something like ''thank you,resume 35 mph'' or whatever the limit is.

yes to the question No! to the ticket. As soon as you reach the "End of School Zone" sign, at least in PA, you can go whatever the faster speed limit is. For example, if you were in a town, the speed limit would most likely go back up to 35, 45, then 55.
Your friend, at least in good ol' Penna, should not have gotten that ticket.
Challenge the ticket.

the speed limit signs are posted at the start and end of the school zone limits. but the law is once you past the painted lines marking 'school zone' then you can speed up to the posted speed limit. which is usualy right after the painted lines.

If the sign says 40km/hr/school zone, it stays 40 until the next speed limit sign that indicates that it has gone back up.
That's how it is here in Ontario.
