1 pound of body fat is equal to approx 3500 calories.
in a week...7 days...if you cut down your overall calorie intake approx 500 a day that would equal approx 3500 calories in a weeks time.
equaling 1 pound lost.
However. There are so many other factors to consider.
what are your calories made of to begin with? Even when lowering your calorie intake you need to know what you are putting in your body and how those particular calories work.
Bottom line.
The easiest way to lose fat, maintain muscle tone and a properly functioning mind and body is to eat several small meals a day.
Around 5.
Make sure those small meals always include some lean protein and veggies before anything else
Cut out anything white.
Flour, starches, corn, white bread, cakes, ice cream
all the high carbohydrate useless carbs.

A human being needs calories a day:
For adult females - Multiply body weight by 10; add the body weight to this value.
[i.e., for a 120 lb female, 1,200 + 120=1,320 cal/day BMR]
If you want to lose weight, don't try it by not eating at all. Run 2 miles or so, try to lose 600 next day, then 700 and go on until you reach you limit or you lose 20lbs.
You go to a gym, right? So try all kinds of traning programs. It's good for your muscles, train them.

try adding more exercise (but not at the gym)
get a friend to walk with you in the morning, or run,(for about an hour) by addingmore exercise you should gradually lose more weight... and try slowly modifying your diet.
just drink water, and skip juices soda's and alcohol (if you drink)
after about a month I htink you should notice a difference not the 20 lbs. but you will be on your way there.

The only way is to burn more calories than you take in daily. Therefore you must track your caloric intake.
