Some people have short term depression and/or anxiety and the symptoms go away for good.

Other people have symptoms for life.

It's not the same for everyone.

Well, yes and no. "Perfectly normal" is the kicker here, because I think it defies definition. We move as humans by little increments. We get better by little increments, and even worse, too, although we may have VERY bad times that seem sudden. We have good days and bad, but in general, things move along for us a little at a time. I liken this to gaining or losing weight, or how our nails and hair grow. One day, we have long hair!

My husband has a serious mental illness, but with a lot of work and complete adherence to his regimen of medications, he is REMARKABLY better. However, I am convinced that without that, he would not be well, period. We trust his doctors. There is no reason that I have seen that he would do well without the medications and the counseling.

depression usually has an underlying problem so its not going to miraculously disappear without the problem being sorted. but theoretically if the problem had been sorted and you werent aware that that was the cause then you could wake up and feel better. it could be a sudden realisation but more likely to be gradual. and i dont think youd ever be normal. but that depends on how intense your depression was. if it was just temporary and mild then yes it could go away and never come back but if it was major, chronic or bipolar then no. and it could come back.
with or without meds is up to you although almost everyone with major depressive disorders medicates in some way prescribed or unprescribed drugs [self medicating with alcohol etc] or herbal remedies [st johns wort]

Anything is possible. However, if you have suffered an episode of severe or clinical depression, the odds are high that you will again at some time in the future.

I don't know anyone that suffered from a single severe episode and never had a recurrence. I include myself.

I currently suffer from anxiety and have been on meds for 3 months. I see a chhange in me with the meds but i know that if I don't take them things are worse for me. I'm sure as you get older and maybe go through what your going through things might change.

As for my situation I'll be on meds for awhile. I feel for you I know what your going through. And if you ever wanna talk i do believe my IM is available.

Good luck and don't lose hope.

No, depression is caused by underlying problems that don't go away overnight.

Winston Churchill suffered from depression, recovered and more or less saved Great Britain from Hitler.

happens slowly..genuine depression/anxiety is chemical imbalance so it really wont get alot better without medication. waking up one morning where everything is ok can and does happen...eventually with persistence
