Well if you want to be a professional soldier than join the Army. They are Professional soldiers. If you want to be a dirty Merc just go to the companies web site and apply online. Make sure you say that you are a crazy blood thirst killer that want to kill innocent people. Good luck in your life and i bet you will get real far.

You can look up in Mercenary Magazine or some such where they recruit al the time. However, before sending in your name, you,d better have a pretty good military background (Marines, Special Forces...). As for merchant marine, that is a civilian affair, any freight company dealing with ships will be able to inform you.

Most security firms & contractors (like Blackwater) want personnel with copious experience. Join your nations armed forces and serve a couple of tours in a combat zone. If you find that you like it, you'll have the experience and contacts for the job by that time.

Merchant marines are/were normal commercial sailors that haul freight and supplies across the oceans. In times of war, they're given a small amount of training and their ships are outfitted with short-ranged defensive weapons. The merchant marines are not a uniformed service, but in the US they may be eligible for some benefits from the VA.

a good start would be, to spell that correctly,
and finish school first.

To not be mean, at least I tell you what a merchant marine is:
its a ship cargo transporter. Hauling goods and fuel all over the globe. To become a sailor, well, you start in a sailor school.
To become a soldier, well, you start as a recruit in the military.
