your dog is suffering from "separation anxiety" a problem you must address in a slow and patient manner.
i suggest, you buy a plastic crate and i suggest you SLOWLY introduce it to him.. leave door open, put his toys in there, feed him in there ( door still open) eventually work up to closing the door for brief periods of time.. have him sleep in there at night ( next to your bed)... then buy a SUPE SUPER SPECIAL BONE ( real bone brand bones) and only give it to him when you kennel him when you leave for work.
this will take time and patience, but will be well worth the effort,, your dog will feel secure, you will be able to take him on vacation if he is crate trained etc.
start slowly and good luck..

I would go with a metal crate. You have a strong dog there.
If you close the dog up behind say the bathroom door I fear the dog may scratch holes in the door in an attempt to get out.
I know crates cost allot but if you have to refinish the whole house that just may cost more. If your dog poos in the house take the dog and the poo to the back yard and show the dog where you want him to put it. You must be very available to potty train a dog. consistency is major. most dogs need to go about 20 minutes after eating so let him out after 20 min.
Watch to be sure the dog goes and praise him for going in the right spot.
Good luck with your pooch.

I have had the same problem. I have been breeding pitbulls for years. They are not hard to train, but they will try your patience. You have to buy a plastic crate. Go to your local pet stores and look for a very strong, plastic crate. For a dog like a pitbull, you should not put them in a full metal crate. When they can see everything around them, it gets them exited. Lock him up when you leave, when he does bad, and when you go to sleep. (this is how you train him) Everyday when you let him out of his crate, let him directly outside. Teach him how to go to his crate on command. I wish I could meet you and help you with your dog. I am wonderful with animals and I would be so happy to help you. But please take this advise, because it is the best thing that you can do right now. If you need any more help, just write to me. I hope things go well for you. Good luck!

If your dog has learned that destroying your property will earn him the reward of "freedom", then you might as well start putting him outside when you leave the house.
Locking him in a bathroom just means he will shred the bathroom door, or dig a hole under to get out.
Pit Bulls are big enough and tough enough to survive in the yard for a while.

Using a crate works. Dogs do not like to lay where they "GO" . Puppys need to go often. Once the dog matures a bit like 8-12 months they can hold it longer.

Try locking him in a small area like a bathroom or laundry room. Usually they do better in smaller spaces but at the very least it will make it so you don't have to find the puddle by stepping in it.

This is what bored pitbulls do. Other dogs as well, but they don't have enough strenght and persistence.
