If you are casually exercising I think that neither one is better than the other. If you are doing 30 minutes on a treadmill or something like that, water will do just fine. Gatorade is formulated for more extreme athletics in extreme conditions. It was originally developed for the football team at the University of Florida (hence the name) because the players were becoming extremely dehydrated by the heat and humidity there. For you and me, water should be good enough.

I agree with NL. I'm not sure what is in Gatorade and I really don't care. It's my understanding that Gatorade is for severe dehydration for high activeness, like with sports games. However, I just stick with filtered water. It's natural and has nothing added to it. Besides, my body is almost 100% water, not Gatorade, so it makes sense that I drink water. Also, Gatorade has calories in it. While I'm not working out currently, I do avoid any extra calories.

There's nothing wrong with water, but for longer workouts and events where fluid replacement is important, Gatorade, or something like it, is far superior because it absorbs faster, replaces electrolytes, and provides a few calories to help fuel your effort.

Gsqueeze: get a clue. Like evolution, no one who has studied the facts disputes it. I've been a test subject for dozens of studies on Gatorade and other sports drinks. The 6% solution has been verified as optimum by all of them. That's why the formula hasn't changed, except for flavors, since the University of Florida original.

Gatorade's salt content makes it innefficient for hydration, however, a 50/50 Gatorade/water mix is neear perfect for maximal absorption of water and electrolytes.

Water is natural; Gatorade is filled with all kinds of artificial stuff.

gatorade gives you and extra boost when you need it.........but for daily exercising needs water is best
