an exciting factor to observe is that the Hebrew word for "hate" additionally interprets as "reject". in case you seem at it that way, i think of the verse makes slightly experience. In Luke 14, Jesus became into addressing a crowd of persons who had provided quite a few lame excuses for not following Him. Stuff that's the equivalent of "not now, God--i could desire to do laundry." Or, "I truly have a dentist appointment... sorry." Now, he's not counseling to hate your mothers and fathers. the factor of His rhetoric is that in case you enable dumb stuff get in the way of obeying God, then what's the factor of announcing you are going to stay with Him in any respect? in certainty, He united statesthe ante: do not even enable your nagging kin, or maybe your very own relatives pull you faraway from God. do not even enable your love of your very own life pull you faraway from God. So, as your pastor so well paraphrased: placed Him first.

Be cautioned about inserting your interpretation(s) into scripture. It is not your place to do that. It is the God's word, not yours.
