Christians get married in church before God and swear "till death us do part"
Both God and Jesus hate divorce, Matthew 19:9 says,
"I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery"
Adultery is a major problem in the Christian faith.
First, one of the commandments in the Ten Commandments specifically forbids adultery. Even worse, in Leviticus 20 we find this:
"If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death".
Adulterers get the death penalty.
Clearly, God and Jesus want Christians to stay married for life.
Given all of this isnt a little surprising that the divorce rate amongst Christians is higher than amongst atheists???
Go figure!

Surely the main point here is that God doesnt seem to have any real effect on the divorce rate of Christians. This is despite the promises the couple make to God and the fact that God himself informs followers that they should remain married. Isnt this just another example that points to the fact that God doesnt actually exist, he's just imaginary.

Ah Jana, that's it... blame Satan. Now the people who divorce don't really have to take responsibility for their own actions. They can just write it off that Satan was messing with them. *rolls eyes*
I wonder what the rate of pre-marital pregnancies are among Christians as well. That seems to be at a very high rate, at least in my area. They recently did a study on the high schools here to see the % of pregnant teens... the local Catholic schools were almost double what the public schools were. Of course, that's not totally bad... at least we now know the Catholics aren't using birth control - which is a huge no-no according to their faith.

The report states that this could be because young people, especially those who are Baptist or born again, tend to marry much younger rather than live together or have premarital sex. I was really shocked at the divorce rate myself!
Perhaps there are more athiests who are just living together, without the benefit of marriage? It would then follow that because fewer are getting married, fewer would be getting divorced.
It was interesting to note that we Lutherans have the same divorce rate as the athiests, yet we look down on premarital sex and cohabitation and uphold the sanctity of marriage. Hmmmmm.........

They can't take credit for their marriages failing it's Satan's fault. It's interesting that people who live only for eternity in heaven can't stick out a few years with their spouse and demonstrate true commitment.
But what it comes down to is they are people just like eveybody else, they have shortcomings too.
Marriage is hard work but is worth all the effort if you value true comitment.

It's true.
Christians who think that all they need to do is say "Christ is my Savior" without actually implementing Christ's teachings tend to suck at life and at marriage.
You leave out Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). LDS who have regular marriages have a divorce rate around the national average.
However, LDS who have temple marriages, which are allowed only with strict adherence to Christ's teachings before marriage, have a divorce rate of about 6%.
Hypocrites, who abound in all schools of philosophy (including Christianity and atheism), tend to have dishonest marriages that lead to divorce more often.

Christians are more likely to see marriage as something they "should" do, and also more likely to marry just so they can have sex without feeling guilty about it. They marry more often, I would say, with less well-thought-out reasoning behind why they are marrying. While many of them make it work, and some stay unhappily married for years, some are smart enough to get out of bad relationships and hopefully allow both parties to make better choices next time.

Christians are the most sexually repressed and aberrant people in the country. It's amazing that as many marriages stay together for many years as there are. I'm surprised more and more Christian marriages don't end in divorce. I have personally witnessed at least 6 Christian marriages in the last 10 years and only 3 of them are still together. And there's children involved in each one.

ok well your problem at trying to bash us born agains is pretty weak. It doesn't even point out if they were divorced before or after they got saved. Also just because there baptist doesn't make them saved, which means there out there sinning more than they would be if they were saved. So really the numbers are inaccurate because it just asked if you have ever been divorced or currently are, nice try thogh

I think if you are using godisimaginary.com as a source of figures relating to Christians, then there is no point arguing with you.
