No, you have only to count:
1 + 1 = 3 (sometimes)

God in three parts each having all the attributes of the other. That I can understand. I have difficulty with the separate but together bit, and have to accept it a a matter of faith. The very existence of God is a matter of faith not proof so intelligence or otherwise does not come into it

It's a simple concept that man makes more difficult than it is.
You are body, soul & spirit. All separate yet still one. While alive you must have all 3. Giving someone CPR doesn't mean you have less of a spirit or they took it from you. The soul & spirit are so closely intertwined only God can separate them. W/o the flesh to confine them they aren't bound to earth or a specific size or appearance. But while here all 3 are one.
What's so hard to understand?

No-one really understands the trinity. Most christians have a "God said it, I believe it, that settles it" attitude towards it. Others make analogies, such as water being ice,steamor liquid, that fall under even not so close examination.

Intelligence doesn't help with matters of "faith." In fact, you could even argue the opposite. My money's on the other two things you named.
Three times one does not equal one. My bet is that doctrine was an attempt by local priests to present local polytheists with something familiar so they could convert them while at the same time avoiding getting executed for heresy.

Average intelligence will serve most well.
No need to lie.
I am not a Christian, I do not agree with the concept but it is easy to understand. They're not 3 distinct entities as stated above. They are 3 aspects of the same entity. Some people would say you have Mind, body and soul. How hard is that to understand.
Mind= Father
Body= Son
Soul=Holy Spirit

I will go for stupid .
Funny I have had it explained to me many times and whist it's being explained I am thinking get me away from this fruit cake. It's not even in line with their bible which they claim to follow.
All they can offer is a few bible texts misquoted or out of context.

It helps if you've watched a lot of Star Trek. I'm not being flip but seriously, the way they play around with the time-space continuum on those shows, especially the later ones, really stretches your brain if you get motivated to check the science behind the fiction.
