Hades is one of the words that is translated errorneously as Hell in some bibles. Check out this little snippet I studied about it:
HADES DESTROYED
I Cor. xv:55: "O death, where is thy sing? O grave, where is thy victory?" This is parallel to Hos. xiv:14, where the destruction of Hades is prophesied. Whatever Haees means, it is not to endure forever. It is destined to be destroyed. It cannot be endless torment. That its inhabitants are to be delivered from its dominion, is seen from Rev. xx:13, "And Death and Hell delivered up the dead that were in them." This harmonizes with the declaration of David, that he had been delivered from it already. (Ps. xxx:3. II Sam. xxii:5,6) It does not retain its victims always, and therefore whatever it may mean, it does not denote endless imprisonment. Hence the next verse reads,

And death and Hell were cast into the lake of fire." Can a more striking description of utter destruction be given than this? Of course the language is all figurative, and not literal. Hell here denotes evil and its consequences. It is in this world, it opposes truth and human happiness, but it is to meet with a destruction so complete that only a sea of fire can indicate the character of its destruction.
** by the way, that's torment! Evil demons have invaded my keyboard! **

Right on Bro!......what it means by eternal torment is when you have been judged this will bring torment to you....I 'm not a 100% sure on how long you will wait after judgemnt before your soul (which is who you are) will be destroyed forever and ever....this is what is eternal.....there will be No literal fire that is to torment................We have a merciful God....not one that delights in torture.....scare tactics and mistraslations have scared many away from the truth over the years.
Thanks....that was presented very well
Your bro Pete

Hades is a place where dead unbelievers go prior to the Judgment. Luke 16:23. Inhabitants experience torment there and, when Hades is destroyed in Hell, Revelation 20:14, their location will change.
Jesus promised that believers would never die in John 11:26, but as for whether an unrepentant soul can die, consider the story that Jesus told about Lazarus. Luke 16:19-31. The rich man continued to suffer, despite having died. The torment is perpetual, eternal, for all the souls who are condemned to Hell - forever. Revelation 20:10-15, 21:6-8; Matthew 25:41 (unbelievers go into the eternal fire with the devil and his angels); Matthew 25:46 (eternal punishment).
Just as there is eternal life for believers, unbelieving souls face eternal death. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 (unbelievers punished with everlasting destruction). Jesus said:
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where " 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' Everyone will be salted with fire.
Mark 9:43-49. In other places, Jesus referred to outer darkness and a fiery furnace where "there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 8:12, 13:42, 13:50, 22:13; 24:51, 25:30; Luke 13:28. Also take a look at Revelation 14:9-11. Nothing impure, shameful or deceitful will enter Heaven. Revelation 21:27.
God is both perfectly merciful and perfectly just. Believe in Jesus.
BTW, according to Acts 2:30-32 (NASB), Christ " WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY." This can be found in Psalm 16:10 and is also quoted in Acts 13:35. Hades is different than Hell.

You are wrong and the Jehovah's Witnesses do not teach that.
What the Jehovah's Witnesses do teach is that Hades/Sheol is the common grave is mankind. Jesus was sent to Hades and was not burn.. and Job prayed to go there to be preserved.. NOT Burned.
Acts 2:25-27
"For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope: Because thou wilt not LEAVE MY SOUL UNTO HADES, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.
Job 14:13-14 "Oh that thou wouldest hide me in SHEOL, That thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, That thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and REMEMBER ME! If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, TILL MY RELEASE SHOULD COME."
Gehenna (the Lake of Fire) is the garbage dump outside of Jerusalem. In a symbolic sense, Gehenna is used as a symbol for complete destruction.
Notice how Hades and Death are thrown INTO Gehenna.
Revelation 20:14
14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.
Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can DESTROY both soul and body in Gehenna.
The Soul (Life) and Body are destroyed in Gehenna.. and something that is destroyed doesn't last forever.

As Hades refers to the grave, it is not eternal torment as those in the grave are only in a deep sleep and are not aware of what is going on.
So yes, Hades will be destroyed inasmuchas when God brings in his new world, there were be no more death, hence no more Hades.

From what I understand Hell changes a few times. Whether you believe this to be literal, figurative, or a load of dooky is up to you. This is what I was taught and doctrinally it seems to line up with what we are told in the Bible.
First, before Jesus died, when anybody died they went to a place called Sheol, the place of the dead. One half of it was paradise, and the other half was a place of torment. They were separated by a great gulf. The reason that dead believers went to this paradise instead of going straight to heaven was that Jesus hadn't died yet - His blood hadn't yet been shed for their sins - and their sins weren't *removed*. Their sins were only *covered* at that point. Remember how they had to do a sacrifice for their sins every year? That sacrifice only covered their sins, it couldn't take them away. And instead of putting their faith in the Redeemer who had already come (since He hadn't come yet), they were putting their faith in the fact that God had promised them a Redeemer and that He would come one day. I hope this makes sense - I just woke up and my brain is still a tad fuzzy! lol
So when Jesus died, His death paid for all their sins once and for all. Now their sins were removed by the blood of the Redeemer. So He took the paradise side of Sheol and brought all those living in it up to heaven. Now they could get in because their sins were finally gone. The "empty spot" where paradise was now became a place of torment as well. I'm pretty sure that is where people go today when they don't put their faith in Jesus.
At the end of the world, every single human being who ever lived is going to stand before God and be judged (even those who believed in Jesus will have their works judged). Hell will deliver up those who are in it, graves will open, and the entire planet will 'give up' those who have died before us. Those who are in Heaven will come and stand before God as well. That will be an incredible multitude of people...I can't fathom it, myself. My brain is too small. The one and only thing God will be looking for that day is whether or not their names are written in the Book of Life (that is what happens when you believe in Christ - your name is written down in His book). If it is,, then God will judge your works and you will be rewarded accordingly. Even i you lived a sinful life as a Christian you will still go to heaven but you may not have any kind of reward. For the record I have no sweet clue what that reward will be and I don't much care. It will be reward enough just to see my Jesus when I die.
Those whose names aren't written will be cast into the lake of fire. Hell itself will also be cast into the lake of fire - so we can see that they are 2 different things. This right here is why Christians are told to witness to everyone....so that we can help save people from this fate. The lake of fire is a place of darkness and misery and utter loneliness and separation from God. I don't want anyone I know going there. Heck, I don't even want people who hate my miserable guts to go there either! So we are to tell them about Jesus.
As for the eternality of this lake of fire, I have no idea. The Bible seems to indicate that it will last forever but I don't know for sure. It might.
I hope that answers your question and I hope you know where you are going when you die.

you misinterpreted those passages
death has no sting because Jesus conquered it.
Hell is eternal
Mark 9:45-47
45And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
JW teach the hell is the garbage dump outside Jerusalem. The bible says the fire wont be quenched. I was there. no fire. No one told God? no the JW are wrong
