Sometimes we are aware of what is going on. I mean sometimes I can recall my own dreams. I usually share it my family (I guess it is quite fun) . But sometimes I know that i dreamed about a particular thing, But I never know what the dream was all about. I guess some are consious and some are unconcious. Sometimes the funny thing is that I can recall my dreams when i am doing something and a similar thing that happened in my dream happen to me in real life or something, then I am like, oh.. this was in my dream last day.

But sometimes I have not clue about what i dreamed. But my sister would be like, what did u dream about last day, I saw u smiling in ur dream. I would never know what I dreamed about.

But dreams are always good if they are pleasent. Sometimes we dream about things that botheres us a lot or things that we are the most passionate about. For example, if u really want something, sometimes u dream about it. If u really miss something, u dream about it. Sometimes if u r afaid of something u dream about it too. 4 example, if a little kid watches a scary movies,he will have dreams about that too. I guess what u do in ur consious mind has something to do with ur dreams. Couple months ago I had a question about dreams, i guess it is not very related to ur question, but it kinda is.

Freud did an exhausitive study of dreans. For him dreams represented unfulfilled wishes. In his theraputic technique, dreams played a very significant role. They were symbolic and metaphorical.Understanding dreams was a very important part of reaching catharsis.Personally I do not believe we have an unconscious, a subconscious, but only a consciousness.I'm not saying that I completely agree with Freud, but I view dreams as consciousness uninhibited. There are dreams that I am fully aware are dreams as I sleep, and very glad of it.Other times dreams are masked and I am not sure whether or not they are real.I love to dream.Always when I dream I wake up much more rested and refreshed than if I hadn't or don't remember if I did. This holds true even for nightmares.Sometimes I think nightmares provide a jolt I probably needed. So to actually answer the question I do not believe as long as we are deemed alive we ever really lose consciousness. This is much the same as my belief concerning Freud's notion of the Self.I do not believe we have an Id fighting a Superego while being mediated by an Ego.I can perceive the Self as both Subject and Object, but with only a singular consciousness.

Sleep is a very complex issue.

There are four stages to sleep and our body has to reach stage four; the deepest state, to heal, grow and develop. Stage one is the light doze and stage 2 is the dreaming stage. As a person sleeps during the night they cycle up and down through the various stages. If you a woken just after going through stage two then you will remember your dreams.

Dreaming is a complex activity where the subconscious mind is released to work on the problems of the day and to rehearse what you learned and decide what to commit to long term and short term memory. Deprived of this level of sleep you start to lose mental functions like memory and reasoning.

Stage four, is the only time when our body goes into high gear to heal wounds and to grow. This is one reason why children need more sleep than children do. As you get even older then you need less sleep; going from as much as 12 hours a night to 7-8 as an adult, to 4-6 hours when mature. If you are deprived of stage four sleep in less than 3 weeks you will die.

Recent experiments with mice have monitored their neurons firing as they run a maze. Then when the mice are asleep the same sequence is replayed as the mouse commits what it learned to memory. Sleep deprived mice have a poorer memory and do worse in the same maze.

There is a lot more going on when we sleep than you realize and we still don’t know all of what is going on. 40 years ago it was estimated that humans only used 10% of their brains, but now days we know the percentage is more 99%. There are still some areas where we don’t know exactly what is happening, but there is no question your brains are almost as active in sleep as when we are awake.

Sometimes you retain bits and pieces of what you have heard or done during the day...often your dreams are a means for your unconscience to deal with what you refuse to deal with in the day. Stress contributes to the dreams you have. Actually the unconscience mind can not tell the difference between reality and the dream....it has been proven that people who dream can have memories they actually think they did, when it was really an experience from a dream. There are also dreams that are letting you know of something which is going to happen....and the interpretation of it may be masked to the real meaning behind it. Dreams of dying do not necessarily mean physical death, but dying to a part of life, a broken friendship, or closure of some kind....very interesting.

Dreams are the same thoughts which come when we are wide awake. At times we reach the super conscious while asleep & we get attuned with certain frequency waves.Sometimes that may happen or might have happened. Only thing we should remember the dream.

oddly i was asking myself this question a few minutes ago. well i do know that thereare scientific answers that go back to freud, but i dont seem to rmbr psychology class at 3 am. my own reasoning is that our minds go to rest. and our own inner being along with influences from spirits or energies that are around us start to form storys in our eyes. i believe my dreams are made up of of all the things that occured in my day whether knowing it or not. i could write for days about this. its almost like when we have deja vu, our dreams are here to reminds us to live and to wake up so we can have more dreams.

when we sleep, our mind is still awake, we are conscious. our conscious mind and subconscios mind is awake. we wwake up durong night if we hear anythig ir smell anything due to the fact that our consciousness mind is awake. when we sleep, pur subconscious mind is also awake and it is recalling or giving a feedback of what happened during the day, some of the thoughts we give importance to and so it is then visualised with the help of our senses which gives us dreas. its only our thoughts anf rears released through dreams. it is a dream it if is our thought or desires and it is called a nightmare when it is something unpleasant and one that releases your fears.
