When I was little, I was Christian and I believed in Santa.

When I was about 4-5 I lasked my mom if Santa was real
She said no.

That's also when I started to question the accuracy if the whole God thing.

Santa was a magical fat dude that gave away toys to the whole world every Christmas, with magic, and decides if you were naughty or nice. God was a dude that created everything(through magic) and chooses if we go to
heaven or hell.

In my simple young mind they seemed pretty similar, and when learning one wasn't real, I realized there was just as little proof of Santas existence as there was of God's existence.

Do you think my situation is a common one many little kids go through?

Do you think the idea of Santa hurts Christians?

I think your situation is very common. Because a lot of children are bought up in homes where parents want to teach that there is only one way to look at things and when they get older they find out that there is more to the story than they were told.

In case of Santa we were told he is and really he is not.

In the case of the God thing they are told that this the only way to believe and there are more than one. If we are to be objective about the whole belief system then we need to be told all side and most are not.

I am from the school that we should not hide anything form our children if they are old enough to ask then we should tell them everything we know on the subject. That way they don't get hurt or confused

First of All there was really a Santa Clause and believe it or not in this tradition Santa kind of represents Christ. I mean the original Santa (St. Nicholas) gave to the poor, fed the children, housed many people, etc. Just as Jesus came to the Earth for the betterment of the people. So do I think that the idea of Santa hurts Christmas - no - I think that the idea of Santa was suppose to be a good thing - but with the materialization of Christmas that we get today has become a bad thing. Dont blame it on Santa - I am sure St. Nicholas is rolling over in his grave.

When will cindy actually answer a question, without completely going off the point to pour forth bilge?
A lot of people's experiences must be similar to yours, the sad truth is that Santa is actually more believable than god.I'm not sure how many will say that it "hurts" them, but I did used to know a couple that took their kids out of classes and playgroups when someone turned up dressed as Santa to give out presents. Those poor kids didn't understand why they didn't get anything whilst all their mates did.How pompously sad.

What you have to remember with Santa though is that he did exist - albeit in a different form to what he is commonly represented as now (Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children) - if my child asked me whether Santa was real or not then my answer would go something along the lines of he was once real who lived a long time ago, and we celebrate the birth of Christ firstly, and live on the tradition of St. Nicholas secondly.

The idea of Santa didn't hurt me. I was raised in the church, but I could always differentiate between Santa and God. When I found out there was no Santa Claus, it didn't change my ideas about God. I know God is real.

Sorry about that...Santa Claus was modeled after a real man by the Name of St Nicolas that gave gifts in commemoration of the birth of Christ. Parents should tell their Children the truth but there is nothing wrong with allowing children to have dreams and fantasies about Mythical persons.

It depends on the person. Once you understand the real meaning behind the Idea of Christmas, it give a different insight. It's about the Birth of Christ who is a Real Person.

Nothing can hurt Christians and it is all up to you who you want to serve. If you want to go to be forever with God or not but there is only 2 places and all the wisdom of this world will not save you from hell fire

I would have to say yes it is true that some of the most petty things can upset the fundamental Christians as many of them are mental midgets who see nothing else but their own ridicules fantasy.

Lying to children takes away from their credibility.
Following a pagan custom or holiday makes a mockery of the bible , the word of their god and Jesus himself.
And they think atheists are evil
