During world war 2, french resistants were called "terrorists" by the nazi and by the "french" gouvernement settle by the germans....is this the same in iraq?

It depends.

There are so many assorted militia groups in Iraq right now. Some of them only target Americans, some target Americans in addition to engaging in genuine terror acts (ie, car bombs in market places).

Sniping an American soldier or blowing up a Humvee isn't necessarily an act of terror unless you try to take some innocents down with it.

As someone has said before, history is written by the winners. Who knows, maybe some French resistance members did acts of terror against people they incorrectly perceived as collaborators.

However, it's still foolish to claim all people fighting American soldiers in Iraq are terrorists. It'd be convenient if things were really that black-and-white, but that's not the case.

You and several of the other answerers seem to be under the mistaken impression that there is one monolithic group committing the violence in Iraq, and that they share a common ideology. In truth, there are more factions than you can shake a stick at, all striving for their own ends. The majority, and the most indiscriminately destructive are foreign agitators who are rightly called terrorists by all sides. Many homegrown groups may consider themselves resistance fighters and enjoy some popular support.

While we had no business invading Iraq, no, it's not quite the same as the Nazi occupation of France.

The difference is that a Terrorist kills indiscriminately whilst a Freedom fight only kills the occupier.

The Muslim terrorist kill more Iraqis that any of the occupying forces have managed to do, this makes them terrorists. The french resistance killed mainly targeted German troops.

The true answer is who wins and who writes the history books . The American rebels were seen the same as terrorists in the eyes of the British but almost every history book will see them as Freedom fighters.

Hey Jock...are the muslims that are burning up france terrorist or kids out having a good time because your government cut off their welfare checks? Heres something you should do. Something your government wont do.....go visit Iraq and find out "FIRST HAND" instead of sitting on the side line like a coward. When are the French people going to stop observing and participate in the halt to Islamic THUGGERY?

Terrorists, is my answer. We went into Iraq to get rid of Saddam. We did it. But the Syrians and Iranians decided to send foreign fighters to fight us. Who knows, if that had not happened we would most likely have been out of Iraq a long time ago. The situation now is: The Iraqis (real born and bred Iraqi citizens) want this **** to be over. Sometimes they help us, and sometimes the help themselves (IE. do what the terrorists say because they don't want their entire family to end up in mass graves). There is a very large cleft here. You must decide where you stand, and, more importantly, why you have decided to stand there.

The French resistors were French. Most of the violence in Iraq is caused by foreigners; non Iraqis

they are freedom fighters

in ireland for 800 years against the british we had the same - they are all historic heroes to the irish

in world war the french resistence were freedom fighters

in america, during the war of indepenence, again against the british they were freedom fighters

in vietnam, the viet-cong, were once again freedom fighters

the definition of a freedom fighter is someone who fights against a foreign occupation........it doesnt matter what country or reason the invader is there if it is not from the country it is in dictionary terms an invader......therefore freedom fighter is applicable i.e. fighting for iraq to return to its own control (freedom) from foreign aggresors

Anyone killed by a GI is a born terrorist including new-born baby. Any one who kills a GI must be called terrorist. GIs are the only non-terrorists on our planet.

If they were resistants wouldn't they target soldiers instead of blowing themselves up in crowded civilian areas?????????????????????????????

During WW2 did the french plant bombs to blow up markets full of innocent bystanders?

Please use logic when forming your uneducated comparisons. Your question is a complete waste of time.

give me the thumb if you like. Brutal honesty is hard for you pansies to cope with.

Anyone who fights against a foreign army, who has illegally invaded and occupied their country, and is responsible for the deaths of over one million of their fellow country men and the displacement of another two million, is a resistance fighter.

I'm not even going to get into the use of depleted uranium.
