Muslims will freely say that their most holy cities are Mecca and Medinah. For them Jerusalem comes third. They face Mecca when they pray - not Jerusalem. And Jerusalem is not mentioned even ONCE in the Quran.
For Jews, Jerusalem has always been a special place and of course it is now the capital of Israel. Jews face Jerusalem when they pray and the city is mentioned countless times in the Jewish religious texts.
In addition, when Israel controls Jerusalem, all are free to worship and visit at the holy sites; the sites are protected. What happened when Jordan controlled the city? The holy Jewish sites were turned into horse stables.
All that said, of course Jerusalem is important to not only Jews, but also Christians and Muslims.
There has even been talk of parts of East Jerusalem being given to the Palestinians. All they have to do is reject terrorism and reign in Islamic Jihad who currently are constantly firing rockets at Israel.
But the simple answer is: Jerusalem belongs to Israel.

The Old City belongs to the three monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Meanwhile, modern Jerusalem which has grown up around the Old City is the Capital of the State of Israel.

wow thats a big issue, their are so many rightful claims.
but the best solution was already carried out many time ago.
cut it to parts...
Jerusalem is divided to 4 quarters: the fewish quarter, the muslem quarter, the Christian quarter and the Armenian quarter. and this solved the problem for a period of time.
but the now the issue is not realy religious but political, and its time to cut the city again, but this time we do not talk only about the old city but the new city as well.
if you did not know the original Jerusalem the old city is just a small part of what the city of Jerusalem is today. but it is not a subject for R&S. so your answer was solved a long time ago. it dosent belong to any one but to every one.

God. He created all and all belong to him. Even if Jerusalem is a city made by the hands of man, God created man and the materials from which he used to erect the city. He also imparted man with the knowledge and ability to build the city.
God is the creator of all and the master of all. He owns everything because he made it all.

It belongs to the followers of the three religions. Muslims because the Aqsua mosqe is there and it is considered the third holy place for them. Jews because it s their holiest place. Christians because Jesus was born there.

It shouldn't belong to no one it should be one place that all who love God should be able to come and worship. Without the fear of being shot or blown up. Shame on all people who cannot even respect GOD or Allah enough to not fight over such a holly place. You all better thank the father that I am not the judge of man.

Can you imagine a world court handing back much of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico,and California to Mexico, or Alaska back to Russia or Louisiana back to France?? or the whole of the continent to Native Americans?
