Go to any local gun shop. You can find a list by typing gun shop near "type in you zip" in a search engine. But you can look at all kinds of firearms and decide what you like. I think by your question you are looking for a semi-auto. A good one runs from 300 - on up. I suggest a Springfield Armory XD in 9mm (550-600), but ask about any and all handguns. The one that fits the best in your hand is the one you should buy. Ask the sales person what he suggests.

Good luck and shoot safe...

FOID card? Firearm owner's identification card? Well, I don't know what else is required to own a gun in your State but like the poster before me said, you can't go wrong with the Glock Model 19 9mm. That or a good revolver.

With the Glock just keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. Also, carry/keep a holster that cover the trigger. Take whatever firearms safety course you may still require and always practice gun safety.

Best.

You will be able to buy a handgun if you are 21 years old.

You say you want one with a clip. I assume you are wanting a automatic handgun. Automatic handguns hold the ammo in a magazine.

Next consider what you will use the handgun for, will it be for target practice, self defense?

What caliber do you feel comfortable with?

You may want to visit a range that rents firearms and find one that you are comfortable with.

Find a shooting range that rents pistols. That way you can try before you buy. See what is available at the range. Read the owners manual before shooting the gun, you can usally download them from the manufacturer. In this way you will be familiar with the firearm and its function. Learn the safety rules. These manuals also contain general information that pertain to all firearms.

The old Broomhandle Mausers use clips but most modern pistols use detachable magazines.

I recommend the Glock 19.

Easy to use, very accurate, good first gun.

Buy a Glock. They come ready to go and require little to no maintenance.
