Recently, my neighbours went overseas. They asked me and my father to look after their place while they're away. Anyway, today my mother (who lives in different house), decided it would be OK to take some firewood from their house. So, I thought it wrong of me to let her do it, so I told her not to, because the neigbours have trusted me to look after the property. She got very upset, returned the wood, and basically has ceased communication with me. Did I handle this right (even though I am feeling like crap, and so is my mother)? Should I have just let her take a few pieces and not worry about it? Finally, what should I do now? Suggestions please.

No, you did the right thing. What she did was wrong. She can pout all she wants to, but she was breaking the law and you made a promise to look after the house. Let her be mad.

ask her how she would feel if she left you with her keys and let someone take stuff that belonged to her?
you are right here, and for her not to speak to you because you stopped her stealing from someone who trusts you is beyond belief, someone with these morals cannot be reasoned with. Leave it a while and let the dust settle, she is your mother, but so in the wrong here, you did the right thing

Since she is angry by now, you may give her space and not talk to her for sometime. She just felt embarrased. Just be good to her and don't mention anymore about the firewood. She will soon realize that it is for her own good that you told her that it is wrong to take those firewood without asking permission from the owner.

You did the right thing. It floors me that she got upset and quit talking to you. Is she not the one that taught you right from wrong? Hopefully, it'll blow over in a few days; just don't bring it up anymore.

Minoe offense but I think you handled well it will blow over in time and at least you didn't have to turn her in on something of importance. I really don't think if it came to it I could turn in my own mother unless she posed a serious threat and needed help.By the way my mother was a Saint.

You were right, she was wrong. You handled it correctly. Leave it a few days, then act like nothing happened and take her to the movies. It will be fine :)

You did the right thing. Give her time to get over it. Share what happened with your father. She owes you both (& your neighbors) an apology.

spank her. that's what she would've done to you. ROFL♥

seriously, i think you did the right thing. it did not belong to her
and your neighbours entrusted you with watching over their property. you did the right thing. your mom should understand that. ask her... what if it were her house? would she want someone helping themselves to her stuff? even if it was wood for the fire? i doubt it. don't worry about it. you did the right thing. ♥
