I am in intercessory prayer and there are times where I just had to pray for myself. My question is what are good godly things to pray for for to insure your walk with the Lord is growing and steady? How have you made the Lord the center of your life?

I love to intercede for people as well- and for the longest time it was hard for me to pray for myself because I thought I was being selfish, and then God spoke to my heart. He wants us to pray for ourselves- not selfish prayers of course, but prayers that will help us with our relationship with Him and others. As you already know from other posts by me, I struggle constantly with a pain disease- and I would never pray for myself because I did not think i should- until i really began reading the Psalms. How honest was David and the other Psalmists with God? VERY- even when they were angry they told Him, but they also continually praised Him in the midst of the anger and stress. I also pray prayers similar to what Paul prayed- asking God to reveal Himself to me, not so that I will have a "great feeling" but that I would know what pleases Him. Keeping the Lord the center of my life, has not always been easy- however I can say this- I continue to look in His Word to see how people in scripture responding to God. That always helps to see that even the most incredible men and women of God had moments where they failed in this and their life in general. What I would suggest is no matter what you bring before the Lord, bring it to Him with honesty and praise.

EDIT- For Julia D and anyone else who does not know what intercessory prayer is- it is totally biblical- it means that a person cares so much for someone else that he/she continually brings them to the throne of God in prayer- those that intercede are standing between them and God

EDIT- Julia, you are welcome. God bless you

I do very little with out praying about it. My husband and I pray before he leaves every morning for work. He will call through out the day for prayer, and we have been blessed with a very close walk with the Lord. The bible says that if we draw near to God, God will draw near to us. To study, pray and live so that others can see Jesus in you. That is the hardest part. Every thing you say and do, you need to stop and think before you speak, and ask yourself, is this something Jesus would say, or do. Putting check points in your life in all that you do, is a good way to make sure that He is the center of your life. Where ever you go make sure you invite God along.

Galatians 5:22 on thru the end of the chapter shows a path to pray ... (taken from The Message)

But what happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified.

Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

in case you do what ever that is which you do is your prerogative. the factor approximately Jesus is that no longer all human beings believes & as a proud Catholic i will permit human beings stay their lives & make they're judgements, i've got dealt with an excellent variety of beleivers & many non-beleivers so i've got discovered to permit human beings be what they decide to be. in the event that they 'get the calling' or sense God in any way they are going to do what's perfect with out every physique telling them what to do; they do no longer look to be young ones for this reason could make a call on what they beleive. This is going out to all of the Christians supply up HARRASING the typical public. no longer every physique is prepared or needs to hearken to blabering approximately Jesus.

My prayers are usually for others, but I have had heavy times when I have asked for His guidance, wisdom and strength to understand His will for me and the ability to do His will even if I don't know what that is. God has never left me unable to care for my loved ones, I have given up a time or two, and this has led to heartache. I trust my God.

What is "intercessory prayer"? It sounds Catholic, but I'm not sure?

EDIT: To AdoreHim, thanks very much for explaining that to me, I know that Catholics ask Mary to intercede on their behalf with God sometimes, so that's the lines I was thinking along when I read the question. Anyway, thanks for explaining instead of just giving me a thumbs down, I appreciate it.
