Greeklish, as Kimon points out, is the way the first immigrants to the USA and Canada were trying to express the English inter mixing the endings with Greek.
You have to keep in mind, that the first Greeks, and up until the mid 60's that migrated to N. America, were in the biggest part people of little education, if none at all, and they had no way to properly learn either Greek or English.
I remember around 1960, that on Sophokeous street, Athens, used to be the board that examined the papers and applications of the possible immigrants. There, the prospective immigrants were provided, possibly with their first book ever, that in simple sentences tried to get them to speak a few basic sentences in English.
I remember that book, and it had surprised me even then, when I did not know English, how naively simple it was.
I believe now, quiet possibly, that was the first step to start that new language, that is neither here nor there.
The need of communication of at least the generation before, to express themselves so as to be understood by the people of their immediate surroundings, led to the establishment of that form of language. Nowadays, it has evolved to be the way of writing in computer language. And that is not greeklish is Greek in Latin characters, but for convenience's sake we call it Greeklish.
