Actually, Laurie is British, so its his Yankee tongue that deceives u. Also check him out in a "b4 they were stars" moment in the flic "101 Dalmatians" starring Glenn Close. Incidentally, another actor who masked his British accent was John Mahoney in "Frasier."

He's British. Actually after watching House I watched 101 Dalmations the movie and noticed he was in it. I said "wow he does a really good British accent." Then my bf corrected me and I learned he was British. XD

You're joking, right? He isn't trying to be funny. He's from England, that's the way he really talks. The American accent for his show is fake.

Yeah, he is British.
Interestingly, when he tried out for the show, one of the executive producers (Bryan Singer) who did not realize he was British was rumored to have said, "See, this is what I want; an American guy"!

Hugh Laurie IS British! It's not a fake accent -- his AMERICAN accent is fake!

Also, he used to be a COMEDIAN!

He is British.

One of his most well know roles was on Blackadder. He also did A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster.
