So, I received a message from a user earlier, and couldn't believe how moronic it was. I have included it below. So, the question is, do you think america is as dumb as the guy that sent this to me, or do we still have hope?
Teachers unions are controled by the left, contribute their political dollars to the left, and openly promote a leftist agenda. To wite, multiculturalism, moral equivalency(promote the similarities of oppresive and representitive governments)School district administrators promote programs that seperate children from their parents in order to better indoctrinate them in leftist propaganda, school provided birth control without parental notification as an example. Leftist teachers openly promote leftist policy with unchallanged comments, (The US was made on the backs of slaves, Corporations polute the earth, global warming is caused by man, evolution is a fact) and all such other nonesense.

Text books are writen from a politically correct point of view, always denigrating US accomplishments and highlighting any blemishes.(example no longer will the terms B.C. or A.D. be used to note years it is now C.E. and B.C.E. I could go on and on. But surffice to say Government school teachers vote overwhelmingly for liberal democrates, openly oppose any republican efforts to reform their system, or provide compitition through a school choice program. These teachers bring that attitude into their classrooms, they can't help themselves, and becauase they have an overblown oppinion of their intellect and a captive audience before them, think it perfectly OK to teach oppinion as fact.

Wow, that's an awfully ignorant email you received. To answer your initial question... yes, it is. And the blame lies in the lap of the conservative Christian movement which doesn't want to acknowledge evolution and was led by President Bush into No Child Left Behind... which leaves behind the brightest kids in order to cater to the lowest common factor of kids.
It's a sad state of affairs here.

Not only am I offended by the email, I am offended by many of the responses. I am a teacher here in the wonderful USA!!! I DO teach spelling, vocab, citizenship, sex ed., and much, much more. I think that all too often people are more willing to place blame on others than to accept the blame for the disintegration of our educational system. Many parents DON'T teach their children how to respect other people, how to keep "it" in their pants, or to keep their mouths shut and listen. Where else are they going to learn this stuff??? If any of you can do better...open your own schools and teach these kids what you value as being important in today's society. Then come crying to me about how you have no life, spend hours of your own time planning what you are going to teach next, and NOT get paid for it!!! Daycare providers get paid more than teachers and many of them just change diapers and feed crying babies!!!

The U.S. has in fact slacked off the education but we can blame this on the politically correct view. We can't admit for chasing the Indians off their land in history textbooks because it might "offend" someone.
We can't say the words "policeman" because that's being a sexist. Instead, it's a "police officer." Or we can't mention the Christians aspects this country grew on because Christianity will offend the other religious believers.
And from there, it's been history. We still have a decent education system and still possess great strength as a whole country. But the key factors in improving our educational system without increasing taxes is really starting over again.
I mean, we're talking students earning their grades through actual studying not through efforts. The textbooks need to be revised where they have a strong non-biased opinion. Teachers should teach not influence. And kids themselves need to realize that school is not a matter of slipping by rather a key in succeeding in life.
Tests should be created where it shows that students are actually learning. Pop quizzes should also encourage students to actually study the books and turning in homework will prompt them to learn even more.
Some of my high school friends have the easiest tests and homework stuff to do, material I learned back in grade school. So when I entered into college, I was potentially already two years ahead of the game.
But students should also have motivation. This should come from peers, friends, parents, and teachers. Learning is an experience. It leads to more knowledge and creates a better depth of the global perspective. Media should never intervene with education.
And. We could use some BETTER teachers as well. Not every professor qualifies for the educational system. There is so much more to contribute to the improvements of the United States education. But this could go on and on.
Basically, education should be taught, tested, and graded FAIRLY on a non biased opinion where textbooks have a whacked out politically correct view. Sure. America hasn't done EVERYTHING right, but those mistakes contribute to our history.

There are certainly a LOT of people that dumb. They've been well coached by their corporate masters. But I like to think that underneath the programming, people can eventually tell when they are being taken advantage of. Hopefully it will not be too late for some of them.

Religious point aside, he has a point.
Schools are separating children from parents. Sex ed is taught there, Birth Control can be provided there, police can question children without a parent even being aware. Truth is, schools parent BETTER than most parents.
And its sad our government has to do that.
