you are paid by your GRADE/RANK. Finishing AIT or BCT does not change how much you make, and just like a civilian job, your after tax pay depends on how many dependents you claim and other factors such as additional life insurance, etc.

first off, strike the 9 to 5 job out of your head. PT usually starts at 0600 or 0630 in the morning. You will report to work at 0900 and work till the job is done. That does not include deployments (no less than 12 hour workdays) or field time. Pay increases happen with promotions. Coming in as an E-1 you should pull about 500 dollars every 2 weeks. Maybe a little more or less. About 4 months into your contract (barring that you haven't screwed up) you will make your E-2. Usually you will not make your E-3 till you are assigned to your Unit. That falls right around the 6 month mark. For every rank jump, it is between 50 to 100 dollars a month pay increase. Some are a little more than that. You also have to figure in any other extra pay too. BAH (housing), BAS (food), and any flight pay etc...etc... That helps increase your basic pay tremendously.

If you are joining the military just for the money then you are getting into the wrong line of work. The pay is ok and the extra benefits help but you're not gonna become rich. The best way to get ahead in the military is to do your job the best you can, stay physically fit, and get as much education as you possibly can. Go to school and get your degree. So there is no such thing as a 9-5 job just a 24 hour,365 day job and possibly the rest of your life love affair with the military if you are lucky.

actually, no matter what your rank, you make a little less money in basic and AIT because you are a soldier in training. After graduation from AIT, even if you aren't promoted, you make more money. I was an E3 in basic and I got about 640 at each paycheck, a little more for my EOM. I don't think he means 9 to 5 litterally, but we call it the "real army" after we finish training. Again, I'm going to have to back up the chick who made the comment about military wives giving info....if you don't know, don't answer...your husband is in the military, not you. I was an army wife for 6 years before I enlisted, I thought I knew ALOT....I didn't.

WRONG.

Base pay does not increase until you are promoted. It has nothing to do with that anything BUT 9-5 job.

an E1 with under 2 years in will make $1346/month in 2008.
E2 is $1510/month. Deductions include: State and federal Taxes, GI Bill, SGLI, Dental for family members is applicable, SGLI for family members if applicable.

Figure somewhere around $350-500 every two weeks.

a lot of it depends on what your mos is, if your married or single, and things like that...depending on when you come in and whether or not finance has their things together....AIT is the same pay but after AIT don't expect too have a 9-5 job especially depending on your mos...you should email me I can help you out with some of your answers...I am stationed at Ft. Campbell just out of AIT.

P.S. It also depends on your rank...

Whoa, whoa, 9-5 job? If this is what you want, are you sure the military is for you? Your pay depends on your pay grade (rank) and time in service. Check out this chart.

Edit: Your career field does not affect your basic pay. Entitlements can differ due to how many dependents you have, if you are living on base or on the economy, the cost of living, etc., but base pay will not change.

actually the military is paid on the 15th and 30th of each month.
You'd have to ask someone who's in the Army now, in the same job, with the same rank. You might try asking a recruiter...they should have all the answers. NO military job is 9-5...I don't know where you got THAT idea.
