It's just superstition! Some believe it, some don't! I happen to be one of the few who don't believe it. I don't think that anyone can predict the end of the world...that's god's job! It's just like how people said 6/6/06 was the "devil's day" and 7/7/07 was supposed to bring all the luck in the world! Both days, nothing special happened, and nothing out of the ordinary happened! So if you are going to worry about something that probably won't come true, you go ahead and do that. And even if something was to happen (I don't believe anything will), it's not like your worrying about it will do anything in a large perspective. So all I'm saying is DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! Hope I was a help!

Slow down Paula, that is the year the Mayan Calander ends! There are some other things supposed to happen in that year! But it is all conjecture and prophesy! People have been yelling that doomsday is coming for 1000s of years, and it hasn't happened yet! Just slow down and try to think of what you can do right now, today! Tomorrow is of no importance until it arrives and you awake to face it and all it brings. Try and think to live just one day at a time! I hope this helps you some little bit!

My goodness, Paula, take a Xanax or something, will ya? I don't want to lose you over this.
Your sister may not have the years right, but there have been predictions of the end since, well, the beginning.
This particular prediction comes from the Maya. Their numerical system for rendering time seems to end in what is our year 2012. But, consider the source. The Maya, while terribly sophisticated in math and astronomy, also sacrificed human beings to appease the gods.
I hope you've been taking deep breaths and performing relaxation exercises while reading this. (The Xanax will take effect in a few minutes.)
Everything will be just fine. The world will not end in 2012, OK? There's still a lot of work, love, kindness, compassion, and joy for you to experience over your long life.
Relax, and take care.

That "theory" (if it can be called like that) comes from the Mayan calendar predictions, which said that the world will end exactly on December 23, 2012, those predictions are registered in the Mayans' spiritual book Popol Vuh (somewhat as a Bible for Christians).
But most people have not read that, and many people actually knows this rumor from Discovery Channel.
But anyway, dont freak out honey, those are just rumors, mythology, legends, Mayans had talent in Astronomy indeed, but even though, there's no human who could predict the end of the world, that's for sure (I guess :)
Chill out :)

Stop worrying! You are causing your own problems. Why worry about what MAY happen? Will worrying change anything?
When your worry , you flood your body with naturally occurring chemicals and hormones that cause your physical reactions you are calling panic attacks. Whats the cure? The cure is to change the way you think. Stop those thoughts and substitute HAPPY thoughts. You are the only one who can control what is happening in your brain. In a short time you can completely cure yourself. Now that's a happy thought !

I dont see why the 2012 date is freaking you out. At least that is five years away.
For all we know the world could end tomorrow. Take comfort in the fact that people are predicting 5 years. And 5 years from now when that turns out to be wrong you can take comfort in the next wrong date that is chosen being a long way off.

Your sister is right, people always have wacky doomsday theories, they always have and they always will.
Think of 6/6/06. Nothing happened to us then!
I've heard of the 2012 theory too, and I hardly believe it. There's absolutely no logic behind it except for what goes on in some insane people's minds.
Don't get too scared about it, just relax and think about the time you're in now, don't worry about what anyone says about the future. :)

Calm down, To quote a very wise man " If there is a problem of any kind and you can fix it, you should not worrie. Also if there is a problem of any kind and you can't fix it, also you should not worrie cause there is nothing you can do" The Dali Lama. This always makes me feel better. Hope it helps.
