Yes, that's about right.

I get around 32mpg in my Altima Hybrid. My driving mix is about half city and half highway.

That's not bad at all.. Friends of mine with the regular 2.5 Altima gets around 25mpg or so.

Personally I think the modest gas savings is a side benefit.. I really like my Altima Hybrid because it's much lower-maintenance-- We don't have to change brake pads until after 100,000 miles, and there are no starter solenoids/motors, timing belts, alternators, or CVT belts in the Altima Hybrid (less things to wear out). Regular Altimas on the other hand will need more frequent maintenance on those parts.

Licensing the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive for use in the Altima Hybrid is a great move on Nissan's part IMHO. The HSD drivetrain is practically indestructible as long as you change the tranny fluid every 60,000 miles.

Hybrid Synergy Drive (same as Toyota). Besides regenerative braking the engine actually turns off for longer periods while in stop and go traffic. Altima Hybrid actually gets it's best gas milage in town and less out on the freeway. At speed the internal combustion starts up to keep the battery charged up and heater running. AC is electric powered. Try surface streets with lot's of stop and go and your gas milage will really shine.

You can compare your MPG with other owners at:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=browseList2&make=Nissan&model=Altima%20Hybrid (18 vehicles, range of 26-38MPG, average 33.3MPG)
http://www.greenhybrid.com/compare/mileage/nissan-altima.html (19 vehicles, range of 26.6 to 43.2, average of 36.1MPG)

Also, what was your fuel economy on your previous vehicle (assuming that you drove it the same as your Altima Hybrid)? You can compare that real-world fuel economy to the EPA's fuel economy for that vehicle, and then apply that percentage difference to the EPA's fuel economy for the Altima Hybrid (35MPG city, 33MPG highway, 34MPG combined) to predict what your fuel economy should be on your Altima Hybrid.

Note that the advertised MPG is the EPA estimates. Auto makers are required by law to post the EPA estimates on US vehicles, and not advertise other numbers. Unfortunately, the EPA/governmental test cycles still do not accurately reflect the average American's driving patterns (and are done in a controlled manner in a laboratory on a dynometer), so they may still be artificially high (even after the new test procedures for the 2008 model year). All cars are subject to the exact same test, so the tests are really only good at comparing one car against another, and aren't so good at predicting your actual fuel economy in your real-world (except by the percentage calculation I listed above), hence why "your mileage may vary." http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/why_differ.shtml

If you do a lot of freeway driving you'll get worse mileage than if you do city driving. It's due to the lack of regenerative braking on long trips. There's a difference in mileage in the HFET and FEDS cycle that is the opposite of conventional sole combustion engine configuration cars. However, I'm not familiar with your particular hybrid so you may or may not have issues.
