Not Atheist...

I don't think you can classify someone as MORE rational/logical by their faith... or lack thereof. Every viewpoint has a very good point in it.

I believe that there is absolutely no way that all the wonderful things in the world, all the stars and planets and galxies, etc, could be without the hand of a higher power.

That is logical to me. I am a believer.

Obviously, we think being an atheist is more logical, or we wouldn't be atheists.

It of course depends who you're talking about. There are plenty of atheists out there that are not at all rational. Atheism is often a part of the "rebellious phase" teenagers often go through. There are also some very intelligent and reasonable Christians out there. I would hesitate to say I am more logical than them, but quite frankly, their belief in God mystifies me.

Actually, that should be a rhetorical question. Because if you ask an atheists most will say yes, but if you ask a theist the same question, most will say yes they are more rational/logical. So, it is in each ones "opinion", as to who is the most rational/logical , isn't it.

Yes. There are minorities of brilliant people in every belief system in the world (no matter how bizarre) , but the vast majority are neither rational nor logical in the slightest.

Have you checked out most of the responses on these boards? They whine about the rapture or spout "god wants this" as if they had a personal phone line.

Unlike most theists, I cannot allow my study of the world to form fit into my preconceptions. In a universe with a trillion galaxies, I find it impossible to say "a male god invented in the Middle East 2,000 years ago" created everything fourteen billion years before human beings even evolved. I am constantly awed and humbled by science. It taps into something more spiritual than religion, and more enlightening than "making crap up on the fly."

I'm not sure that I'd really want to answer this question the way it's worded, but if I were given two people I knew nothing about except that one's an atheist and one's a theist, I'd assume the atheist to be more rational/logical/intelligent.

Actually, I don't. I'm not a rational or logical person, a lot of my decisions are based on emotions (unusual for a guy, I know). To become an atheist I did use a bit of logic and rationality, but I mainly was philisohpical about it. And I use philosophy rather than logic to come up with my own "life rules". I don't want a book written nearly 2000 years ago to dictate how to live my life when I know better.

When it comes to belief in god yes, when it comes to all other things no. Just because a person is a theist doesn't mean they cannot rationalize. There are still great scientists out there who are religious. But those who belief in creationism or intelligent design obviously lack the rationalization and logic of us atheists.

Since every argument for the existence of god contains a logical fallacy I would have to say that atheists are indeed more rational, logical, ethical, and realistic that theists.

In terms of religion or believing in something that has no evidence (e.g., believing in being abducted by aliens instead of realizing your emotions make you think it is real because of a false memory) I believe I can think more rationally as I am aware of how the mind can trick itself because as an atheist I am not tied to the delusion of religion so I can help myself better in getting and/or staying out of other delusions.

That is an overly vague question. What do you mean by "more rational/logical", I would say that the answer is undetermined, there are different topics/subjects were theists and atheists can irrational at.
