My wife and i change or daughters diaper about every two hrs but she will let us know or we can smell if she needs to change in between. A friend of ours just had a baby we were going out and we allways change her right before we leave so she has a fresh diaper before hand we asked her if she wanted her daughter changed. She said no she only changes her ever 4hrs because diaper are to expensive. Even if she has a poop she waits until it has been 4hrs. I think that is crazy and the baby will get diaper rash (my daughter has never had diaper rash in 16 months) She says we change our daughter to often. I think she is the weird one

WoW....... I agree with everyone that has already answered you !! That is absolutely ridiculous thinking on your Friends part !!
For one thing, they will leak through if overly soaked and all the clothes end up wet too (not to mention whoever is holding the baby). There are also times (when teething for instance) that the baby will get diarrhea which can also leak out if left for any length of time. Maybe after one of these episodes the parents will be forced to change the 4 hr limit..............

she is the weird one. Like i have no time frame in which i change my daughter i change it when it needs to be changed or about an hour after she has a drink as it takes 45 minutes to get into the child's bladder but if she has just changed her baby and the baby poops 10 minutes later does she leave her in it for the rest of the 4 hours?
my baby had had nappy rash but thats only when she teethes but some kids are like that. But i think that lady needs to be reported to cps and have that kids taken and good on you for changing your child's diaper some kids aren't so lucky

ok maybe i am a bad mother but i don't change my son on any type of schedule and never have i change him when he needs it obviously i change him when he wakes up or b4 bed but there is no time limit on his diapers. i think that is a bit excessive, but that is crazy to leave the baby in a poopy diaper. if you can tell the diaper is wet or if there is poo in it change the diaper. and the only times my son has had diaper rash is when he wakes up at night an poos and goes back to sleep he is 2. some one suggested cloth for your friend i think that would be a good idea.

I change my child as needed. I don't have a set time but when he wakes up in the morning and naps and b4 bed at night always and any other time in between. If the cost is the only reason why they are not changing the diapers then you should have them look at some other options. There is a diaper called a GDiaper and it is kinda cool. The lining inside are disposal and flushable I think but the outside is reusable. I thought the are cool. I haven't tried them yet, but I thought they might be kinda cool for my son now that he is interested in the toilet.

when they are very small, up till about 4 months, they poop a lot more and have to be changed every 2-3 hours just like you are doing. however as they get older, 5,6,7 months and up, they don't poop nearly as often and don't have to be changed as often either. for example my 7 mo old only poops once a day. but i do change her wet diapers every 3-4 hours as well. so i would say it depends on the age of the baby. but no, it is not good to let the poor thing stay in a poopy diaper. i change my child as soon as i see that she has pooped.

She needs to change the baby more often, especially if it pooped. Dealing with a baby with diaper rash is not fun. Who cares how much diapers cost.

I change my son as needed, otherwise he will take the diaper off himself and run around without one.

Wow, 4 hours? My baby cousin needs diaper changes way more than that. I'm not a parent yet but when I do have a baby I'll change the diaper when they need it. I won't do the schedule thing.

If she can't afford disposables then she needs to get cloth, but then she would probably complain about having to wash them. That is GROSS. I would NEVER leave my son in a poopy or wet diaper that long! The only time he ever got diaper rash is when he was teething and that was with frequent diaper changes.

Let her sit in pooey pants for 4 hours and see how she likes it! If she continues, the child will likely develop diaper rashes or yeast infections. Disposable diapers trap all that moisture in. Nasty diapers can really burn a little one's bottom!

We never changed on a schedule, just whenever babies needed it.

I think you are doing it the right way. You should make a schedule to CHECK the baby's diaper and whether or not it needs changing. But, you should never allow the child to sit in the fecal matter. That leads to Urinary tract infections and yeast infections and bladder infections. that is borderline child abuse and any daycare is REQUIRED to report it in my state. Yes diapers are expensive GET OVER IT. You should look up in webmd.com the effects of just one dirty diaper...
