If Christ told the disciples to own a defensive weapon, and if God gave man the beasts of the field for food there is no way it is hypocritical.
A firearm is part of the natural progression from spear, to bow, to crossbow, to a firearm.

It wouldn't mess with my faith. I'd get one just so that a Great Tribulation Christian would know where it was. I totally expect Russia to attack the US in the Great Tribulation after all!
In fact, I've been eyeballing an M -14, I wouldn't mind at all having one of those.

No, it's not hypocritical. In this day and age, it's smart for someone who does not intend to shoot holes through innocent people to own a gun.

This goes out to all those people who think that owning a gun is declaring we are ready to use it and that it is just plain ole immoral........ HUH ?????????? and a WHAT ????? thrown in there for good measure...... If you own a knife does that mean you are willing to use it to kill a person ??? Hunting for food is and has been how we eat...... Do you eat meat ??? It is just if not more so, deadly to drive a car....... get a grip people........... Guns do NOT shoot themselves...... it is the person behind the gun that pulls the trigger........ but you are entittled to your opinion...... but at least make your argument real........... go in peace....... God bless

No. I own at least a dozen guns and I am a Christian. They have never been used to hurt anything except animals and clay pigeons. However if you break into my house I will show you the business end of my .357. Probably be the last thing you will see too. I have a concealed carry permit and I carry a Glock 9mm with me all the time. I even carry it in church at the request of my pastor. Jesus even told His followers to buy swords. We are never forbidden to protect ourselves. If someone comes into my church intending to harm my brothers and sisters I would rather it be them who goes to meet God.
Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Luk 22:37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
Luk 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

One can be a genuine Christian and own a gun. One can be a genuine Christian and rich too.
But it's hard.

No! How is it a sin to own a gun? It is a sin to kill someone with it, but not to own it!

No, your mistake is that you assume you know why they own the gun.

No, it is not.
People need to defend themselves. Some Christians are police officers.
If someone is trying to kill us or harm us or our children, we are EXPECTED to defend ourselves/our loved ones.
