Visiting Canada from US, I take two digital camera( pretty new) in case of dead battery or malfunction. Do you think custom and border checkpoint will give trouble?

If you stop at the US customs they will give you a piece of paper for the cameras before you leave the country they should have the serial numbers make and model on it. You just keep this with the cameras all the time and you should be fine.

No trouble. But if they are new bring the receipts with you. Canada doesn't care. It is on your way home when US customs asks you if you have any purchases to declare and in the rare chance they check your stuff, the easiest thing is to show you purchased them before your trip.

register the cameras with US customs before coming into Canada, just having the receipts is not enough.
