I used to have a particular nightmare all the time and now I was wondering if you could force yourself to have a certain dream again. I just want to have my nightmare again so I can try to notice different aspects I never saw because I would wake up screaming.

Yeah, I did that to myself. The same nightmare over and over again.

A rather unusual request, I am wondering what it is that you got out of the dream, if you got an interpretation from it, and things. If you aren't having this dream anymore, then you have resolved whatever it represents, but if you're really determined to view it again, I guess about the only thing I could suggest is go to sleep reviewing this dream in as much detail as you can remember, and maybe you can place yourself within it, but the conditions that brought the dream on in the first place have changed, so it is likely that if you have this dream again in order to look for other symbols, it's likely the symbols will not be the same, because you are not the same now...........

I've done something like that before, in that I realized I was in a dream and could control my actions,
and I did one time succesfully conjure a dream before falling asleep, but the time this happened I was extremely sleep deprived and when I fell asleep it was as if my mind stayed awake while my body fell asleep during this point I was able to control nearly every dimension of my dream(setting, characters, my own actions) it was quite interesting but I didn't try to conjure an old dream or nightmare.
of course I have little control over when these dreams take place it just seems to happen under certain unknown conditions(I think being extremely sleep deprived was a cause for it, 5 or 6 days with 3-5 hours a night of sleep) and when I fell asleep I was trying not too(trying to stay conscious but lay down at the same time)

so I suppose it's possible but quite difficult and I've never seen anything done scientifically on the possibility

I dont know how to get you started but it is possible to control your dreams to a degree. It's called lucid dreaming (I think from memory). I think it has to do with REM and NREM sleep patterns and what stage of the sleep cycle you are in. Have a look in psychology books, they have alot on dreams and sleeping.
It is possible I think if you can maintain a level of counsiousness whilst being in stage 3 and 4 sleep which is when dreams occur. This normally is between your second and third or fouth hour of sleep, which is when you are supposed to be slepping the heaviest and again four hours later.

Heres some interesting facts for you, dreams are actually only about 2 seconds long in real time and it is very dangerous for some-one to wake from deep stage four sleep.

I used to have very bad nightmares as a child and I learnt to control and change the events in them.

Some nightmares are repetitive by nature, because an issue in your life has not been resolved, next time you have the dream, see if you can control aspects of it, towards a more positive outcome. You can encourage yourself to dream about a certain subject by thinking about it in detail, just before you go to sleep.

Not sure why you want to go back to that nightmare, but I have read you can train your mind before you go to sleep to have your subconscious explore what it is you want to see. Sleep is an interesting and complex study, but some of the things that have come out of such studies are that the brain when it sleeps basically goes over events experienced while conscious and tries to solve the problems raised by such experiences, it a way that is not really well understood. You would need to read some books on how to train your conscious mind to explore your subconscious dream state, but it can be done. Another approach would be through hypnosis, if you happen to be a good candidate for such therapy.

i remember reading something that was proven that you can control your dreams and nightmares. Not only to veiw a sertain thing, but also to stop the dream. if youre in the dream, you should be able to contact yourself and tell yourself to stop dreaming and wake up. So good luck.

I guess your best bet is to obsessively think about it, that way it is the only thing you think when you knock out. I've done it before, although my success rate was very small and since i'm not a child anymore I have a hard time remembering my dreams :(

you could have a similar dream if it's dealing with an unresolved problem, but as for seeing the same dream played out like a movie on replay...i don't think so.

You should try to just think about the dream really hard in detail and it might reoccur.....make sure it is right before you go to sleep.
