You may have switched too quickly - but if you ask me, I don't feed Science Diet. It's crap.
I feed Innova Evo, which is very rich in protien as it has no grains. Your dog's poop will be lots better if you switch a little at a time and to a better dog food...

For switching dog food, start out the first week with 75% old food, 25% new. Second week, 50/50. Third week, 25% old and 75% new, fourth week, all new. Dogs' stomachs are really sensitive. Good luck!

That answer depends mostly on who you ask?? Everyone will have a preferred, horror stories of a bad food, etc. Science Diet is certainly not a cheap junky food. Your vet might have a fact based opinion that is more valid than asking here. If your Pug digest the food well and no problems with coat, gas, etc then you should feel ok to use. Everyone here will have their personal preference. There are so many brands out now and some very expensive, designer brands even! We in rescue wish we could afford to feed a brand like Science Diet.

Science Diet isn't great food at all, no matter what type. Your vet is going to push this for two reasons. 1. I bet he sells it at his clinic and 2. Vets really don't learn much about dog nutrition in vet school, what they do learn is taught by dog food companies.
Large breed foods in my opinion are just clever marketing. Puppy foods really shouldn't be fed to puppies at all, instead they should be reserved for pregnant and lactating dogs.
Why? Puppy foods cause rapid growth. Rapid growth leads to bone and joint problems. This is the last thing you want for a puppy, especially when you're dealing with a large breed puppy.
Your puppy would be much better off eating an All Stages Food. Why? These foods promote a more desirable slower growth, and help decrease the chances of bone and joint problems later in life. Pups should grow up slowly not spring up like weeds.
All Stages Foods are good from puppy hood through the senior years.
But don't puppies need different nutrients than adult dogs?
The answer is No. Puppies nutritional needs only vary from an adult dog in that they need more of them. So you will feed your puppy a little more of an All Stages Food than you would feed an adult.
A couple of brands that have all stages are Canidae and Innova Evo. These are high quality foods unlike Science Diet. If you'd like more information on what makes up a high quality food feel free to email me.
When you are switching foods you should do so slowly. Gradually introduce the new food so your puppy doesn't get a digestive upset. To do this you add a little bit of the new food each day, while slowly decreasing the amount of the old. This process should take about a week. For example if you feed three cups of old food a day, take out a quarter cup of the old, replace it with quarter cup of the new food. The next day take out half a cup of the old and replace it the new food. (Excuse me if my math is off, its late, but you get the idea.)
Good luck with your puppy.

Hills Science Diet is crap. Your vet is a vet not a nutritionalist. Vets take a very short course in school, usually sponsored by Hills Science Diet.
Go to the link that another poster suggested and see for yourself , make sure you scroll down and read it all.

Unfortunately, Science Death is one of the worst foods out there. But don't take my word for it - check this site:

As the review says, you can get better food for your dog. There are so many pets who suffer from allergies - often to the point of scratching until they bleed, or worse. Wheat and corn are 2 things that dogs don't need - and they are found in abundance in that food.

i am not a fan of science diet. at pet smart there is a breed oriented type of food i cant remember the name of it, but it is for specific breeds. i used the one for my shih tzu and it was great. hard poo poo very clean and not smelly... he is on cheap stuff now and i have noticed a HUGE difference, sorry for being blunt
