The Bible is not necessary spiritually or literally true. The moral parables and natural explanations of men who lived 2,000 years ago should have little bearing on modern life. We've already improved beyond the Bronze age both morally and scientifically. Plants did not exist before stars, and women did not come out of a man's rib.

If another person can find value in the Bible (historically, socially, artistically, or whatnot - provided they do not support theocracy or stoning), then good for them. But I cannot personally support that document in my life. I much prefer the Bhagavid Gita, which is very non-violent compared to the Abrahamic religions.

My first response would probably be, "wtf?"

The only way I can think of that that question would make sense is if they meant that actual events in the Bible shouldn't be interpreted as historical accounts, that the point of the Bible is to describe the nature of God. Since most Christians (I think, or at least hope) believe in evolution, this is probably a fairly common position. My response would be that I don't think any of the claims in the Bible are true, except some of the ideas of morality perhaps.

The real problem with that statement, though, is that "spiritually true" is about as vague a phrase as you can come up with. That needs to be clarified before anyone can be sure they're responding correctly.

The bible is Spiritual, and man can not under stand Spiritual things, so he tried to understand it literally, and cant. The bible is for Gods people, and God gives His people the help of the spirit, and it makes them able to get the understanding. He sends His people a comforter(spirit).

My take on that is .... Not today, thanks?

That which doesn't agree with my desire for reasonable and logical explanations of my surroundings and only raises questions of its own value overall, is hardly a lift to my spirit.

The moral lessons are frequently fraught with either violence or empty promises or fantastic magical happenings to the point of being quite disagreeable and the efforts to explain the conditions that brought about reality are more than merely disagreeable, they're entirely preposterous.

I find neither literal truth nor spiritually satisfying truth in the Bible. The book is as worthless to me as is the stink from my underarms.

I believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.
The Bible went from (NT Aramaic to) Hebrew to Latin to English with multiple rewrites in each language. I have seen OT facsimiles where many lines have been completely stricken through and entirely rewritten. The forking that happened because of political and doctrinal agendas with each rework has led to 25 different English language versions of the Bible.
25!

I do believe that those who truly seek the wisdom and intent of God offered in the Holy Scriptures will find it if they seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit, regardless of what version they read.

Do you really think the earth and everything in it was created in six days as we know them? There were no days, a day is one revolution of the earth, if there is no earth, there is no day.
Let me put it this way, when did Jesus ever mean exactly what he said? i guess the story of the Good Sammaritan was just a story about a nice foreigner, not about the salvation of Gentiles. The prodigal son was just a lost boy who came home, not God's forgiveness of sinners. Anyone who takes the Bible word for word is missing out on the true meaning of it.

Well intelligent people know it is not literally true. And I don't what spiritually true means, but it sounds kind of poetic.
Personally I think most of the bible is a load of rubbish.

I know who said it, and I know the struggles he's been having. The Bible is and must be the foundation for Christian living. Once you lose that (for whatever reason) you open yourself up to all kinds of error. If you have nothing to verify the truth of what the voices in your head are saying, you could end up believing anything.

the spiritual information intercepted by humanity then twisted and spun to promote religious agenda.. that is what the bible is... the bible is written from prophecy..that is the information that was intercepted.. and spun so opposite from reality that it litterally hides the truth from all who follow it... sometimes the truth does filter through but when that occurs the christians are redirected into arguing other false points till they forget ... such as the behavior of the hypocrites mentioned in the bible mirror the behavior of the christians.. yet they do not see themselves... the prophecies 2000 years back was intercepted by a human who thought he could give himself eternal life.. he wanted our legal information, medical information. political information.. he used the prophecies also to destroy those who would come and put an end to his deception... that is why there was burning of heretics... and witches...that is why there were inquisitions and crusades.. so that those prophecied to expose the evil of the church then christianity would die... Now first there was the catholic church the one built by the original deceiver... but then as nature became more able to defend it's true prophets he assembled an army of selfish individuals.. that is where the christians churches evolve from... and they are killers.. all working to stop a young man.. called jesus in the prophecy (not his real name) and the new deceivers would take what they could to end his life and call themselves christ... so now we see the two paths of prophecy... the false path... god and christ... and the other which is being held back so that those who would participate in them could not see their roles... the one called jesus and a woman ... these two will succeed for the woman is stronger than the sum total of the original one who calls himself god and those who would call themselves christ... and she would be asked to be god... but knowing the lies of the religions refused.. for it is a dirty word and deception is not what she wants to be... so she is given the name of mother nature... keeper of the laws of nature... prophecied as the woman in the wilderness... and the man will learn from her.. and he will write his books with the information that humanity has been waiting for....
