I think alot of people put their kids in daycare to help get them ready for kindergarten and preschools are all about learning compared to most daycares which are about keeping your child safe and happy while you are working. Preschool is usually only about two to three hours twice a week.

I personally found that my kids both have thrived in preschool. The both were home with me from the start. But around 3 they really do well to have some interaction with other kids. Getting a really good school is important.

To get them used to the idea of being around other kids, being in a school routine, and cared for by people who don't have "parent-blinders." Some children get held back in kindergarten for behavioral issues that preschool could have resolved.

It helps them socially and mentally.
It prepares them for kindergarten.
If they have been to a preschool (most are half day)... staying at kindergarten all day isn't as much of a shock.
The child will be used to having a structured routine consisting of different centers, instead of doing what they want all day=]
PLUS they might know a few friends in their kindergarten they went to prek with:)

I did because he was begging to go to school! I am in graduate school, my husband is a college professor, and his brother was in highschool. He wanted to see what the big deal was. He LOVED it! I stayed home with him until he was 3 1/2 and then only sent him to preschool for half days, three days a week. Now he is in Kindergarten. I'm glad I sent him because he leared a lot and gained a lot of social skills.

Well, I went to preschool and personally, I loved it. I made a great friend in preschool who I still talk to even 15+ years later.
It gets kids to meet other kids their age instead of just hanging around mom and dad all day.

To begin social skills...to start the learning process...because preschool is cheaper than daycare?

Because it is never too early to improve your child's skills. It has a lot of benefits. The more a child knows by the time they reach First Grade, the better the child's chances are to get ahead. My nephew could read by the time he was ready to go on to First Grade and once he was there, he was able to read at Fourth Grade Level. The sooner you teach a child to read and write the better. I taught my nephew to write words when he was 3 years old and he was good at it by the time he was 4 years old and he could also make sentences by age 4. Take care!

To get them used to being away from home without going through the sepearation anxiety thing. To get a head start on elementary school. To make the transition easier on their children.
