Mother in law will never be happy. Mine snubs her nose at a cheap gift and tells us we can't buy expensive ones for her. Let the kids make her a craft like a candle or something. Well, there is one thing my mother in law does appreciate and that is photos of the kids. I put favorite photos in a little album with footnotes of where they've been and what they've done. Both grandma's love it! If you don't have kids them get her a gift card to a favorite restuarant or the place she gets her car washed. That's what I do for my in laws because otherwise they complain about how long it takes the family to open gifts and I shouldn't have wrapped stuff and yada yada yada. Most daughter in laws can't get it right even if they cared and were trying!

Do you have kids yet?

If you do, give her a scrapbook of photos of the kids. No amount of money can buy memories of her grand babies growing up. Even if she is close and get to be there for some of the memories. And this isn't even something where you get to next Christmas and say, "But I gave her that already!" because it is a brand new year of memories every year...

Professional photos of your kids if you have any. I made mine a christmas cake once, for my dads partner (who is very wealthy) I always just give her something sentimental because there is nothing I could buy her that she wouldnt have already bought for herself if she had wanted it.

What does she collect? anything? Maybe you could check into that.

If she gets her nails or hair done at a certain place, perhaps a gift cerfiticate?

You might want to check with her daughters if she has any, or maybe a sister of hers?

Just don't ask her husband, he won't have a clue. he only lives with her.

Maybe make a donation to a charity in her name. Pick one that supports a cause that she would want to support.
