Monogomy is primarily a RELIGIOUS concept. Do Atheists approve of open marriages, allowing their spouses to experience other mates or are they monogomus, if so why? What makes you want to be "exclusive" or demand "exclusivity" in a mate?

Ok. Legality aside. Cheating. Allowing a spouse to EXPERIENCE others freely. That is not illegal. There are no ADULTERY laws in the US anymore.

I can't send links when you don't allow e-mails, sorry, free will your choice! But GOD in the 10 commandements says NO ADULTERY and Jesus says NO divorce except for ADULTERY. Those are two religious links in the Bible.

Man get's LAW from RELIGION or religious influcences. I'm wondering why ATHEISTS are so uptight, moral and prudish. That's typically a FUNDAMENTALIST viewpoint.

Yes, I am picking on Atheists and I want to know why SOME not all of you are PRUDES. That's basically a view held by Muslims, some Jews, Hindus and most Christians.

Where does your PRUDE nature come from!

What ELEMENT of PHILOSOPHY makes you a PRUDE

I want to know why MEN demand their WOMEN and why WOMEN demand their MEN be FAITHFUL

Is this a HUMAN thing or a RELIGIOUS thing, if so

Why all the JUST DO IT comments in this section when SEX is involved.

Why do PEOPLE tell others to JUST DO IT

If they don't tell you they're married and you say JUST DO IT you are ADVOCATING ADULTERY

ADULTERY is only a RELIGIOUS CRIME

NO state in the US has an ADULTERY LAW anymore.

Morality COMES from religion, no where else.

ATHEISTS point that out all the time!

A Christian says they are saving themselves for marraige and ATHEISTS rag on them!

Morality COMES form religion and ATHEISTS HAVE SAID SO

Why do you back peddal.

You don't like us inflicing OUR LAWS on you well our LAWS are about morality.

It's cool when you agree with it and not when you don't.

That's being PRISSY

Is that what ATHEISM is about, being prissy!

We have a MORAL CODE in ISLAM, CHRISTIANITY, HINDU and JUDAISM

NO SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE

THAT IS A MORAL CODE

Can we make it a law

Can we ENFORCE IT UNIVERSALLY or do you have a PROBLEM with it!

MAKE UP YOUR MINDS

True story

My boss called in sick.

A girl in our department also called in sick.

That day his WIFE called and asked to talk to him and one of our people said

HE'S HOME he called in sick

And his wife said

Oh, really!

The next day he had a black eye.

Now DO ANTI-GOD Atheists honestly except SOCIETY to BACK them on COMMITING ADULTERY, a RELIGIOUS CRIME, lying, a RELIGIOUS CRIME and allow someone wife of husband to THROW THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE for doing this ANTI-RELIGIOUS THINGS and SOCIETy IS SUPPOSED TO BACK THEM ON THIS in a SECULAR SOCIETY and let them take 25% of an income in a DIVORCE over these RELIGIOUS things!

This is ATHEISM!

ATHEISTS are reaping the BENEFITS brought by the RELIGIOUS through LOBBYING influcences and the legal system that is DOMINATED by the RELIGIOUS MORALISTIC VIEWS!

Atheists looks down their noses at God's moralistic demands yet you ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF THEM and you even HOLD to them.

Get my point.

My point is you should be open minded and I gave THUMBS UP to those who were.

I gave the initial thumbs up

Anyone who was OPEN MINDED even if THEY WEREN'T got a thumbs up

Atheism is supposed to be about REMOVING THE SHACKLES of us HORRIBLE religious people who DENY YOU everything

Yet you like some of our SHACKELS!

And you expect your HUSBAND or WIFE to follow some of our SHACKELS

And WE CAME UP WITH THEM for In Africa women are allowed to married women and mate with ANY MAN they want to make babies

And that bugs MOST of you out there

And you don't like that and don't want that for your society

You don't want that for your wife or husband.

You want the Catholic Protestant, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim RESTRICTIVE ways

You LIKE some of our RESTRICTIONS, especially for your 13 year old daughters.

In Native American culture a visiting male gets to SLEEP WITH and MATE the man's wife as a GESTURE of accomodation.

If I come to your house can I sleep with YOUR wife!

Where does your MORALITY COME FROM when Indians and Africans have as VASTLY different view from CHRISTIANS, JEWS, MUSLIMS, Hindus...

Get the point, brainwashed Atheists who cling to conservative Judeo-Christians morality yet condem the source.

You don't free think.

You don't take a worldy view or you'd take NATIVE AMERICANS and AFRICANS into account.

We did our brainwashing good, didn't we!

We Christians we really stuck it to you good and you can't espcape it!

Adultery
Polygamy (it's in Bible by the way, it was approved of long ago)
Open Marriage
Free Sex
Pre MArital Sex.

But once you BIND you want it exclusively and that's a demand from GOD and you have to live with your acceptance of God's wishes.

Want to free think, be more open minded.

Polygamy, by the way, is multiple sex partners.

Is one sexual organ different from another.

Is it any different sticking it into Jane than Sally

I mean is Sally's any nicer than Jane's!

How does Jane feel when you leave her for Sally.

Girls, dwell on that one.

What makes Jane better than you.

Why were you inadequate.

Why did he dump you for her.

Polygamy

More than one MATE.

Many mates.

Concurrent or otherwise.

Girls understand this more than guys do

They are on the receiving end.

By the way, accoring to the Discovery Channel 80% of mamals are NOT mangomus.

Monogomy is a MINORITY among mamals.

MOST animals in the MAMAL species do NOT mate for life.

It is a one night stand.

That is nature's way. Darwin's way.

One night stands.

Find them, do them, leave them.

That is the way of MAMALS.

Do religious people cheat. Sad fact, some do.

They chant that claim: I'm only human!

What does that got to do with anything!

You are confusing morality with religion. One does not have to be "religious" to have a set of moral codes. Moral codes may or may not include polygamy.

Sh*t man!
How can I read all that crap! Stop having arguments in your question. Better to ask another one!

I was born to be a polygamist. It's something that has stuck with me all my life. It's not like I have in mind that a man should have many wifes.. but I think that too much emphasis is placed on monogamy in our modern society. I mean, why shouldn't I have a boyfriend or two and a wife or two so long as nobody is being hurt? That's the key right there. Consenting adults can and do have quite complicated relationships by mutual agreement.

Trouble is, our society puts this monogamous baggage on marriage and relationships and it raises often unattainable expectations as evidenced by the (nearly) 50% divorce rate resulting more often from want of fidelity in a relationship.

I agree. I think it is by reason of religious doctrine. Laws develop out of sanctions and some of those have a religious basis.. for example.. blasphemy is actually a crime in some countries!

Monogamy is practiced by other animals too... so it's not just a religious thing since only humans are religious. Even in species that practice monogamy you will find a few that like to get it on with another besides it's mate. I think it's a good practice because as long as both partners are truly faithful to each other, then STDs should not be an issue in the relationship... not to mention emotional drama that could occur from multiple partners.

Please stop shouting.

Monogamy is not a religious idea, in fact it was more common in more religious times for a man to have more than one wife.

Considering it's typically hard for any human to share their lover, I'd say monogamy is, for the most part, either genetic or at least imprinted upon us by society. And considering most societies don't share your faith yet do share your ideas of monogamy, I'd say it does not stem from religion.

I'm just gonna ignore your rant, I'm not reading through all of it when I can see from the start that you're already extremely biased against atheism and are willing to make up any old crap to use against us.

If all parties agree I have no qualms about it though it isn't for me. I wouldn't want to be one of two wives. That doesn't mean I wouldn't have an 'open' relationship with my man as long as nothing is done behind the others back. I fail to see how monogamy is strictly a religious concept.

EDIT: "Morality COMES form religion and ATHEISTS HAVE SAID SO" I think you are mistaken about this statement!

What if I don't feel like being a polygamist? Honestly, I think it's a little naive to assume that our anti-polygamy laws are purely religious in nature. Instead, I suspect that our anti-polygamy laws have a lot to do with legal issues. I mean just think of divorce court, determining income tax, social security benefits, health care coverage for spouses, custody battles, inheritance, and even property ownership.

Monogamy appears in several animal species, so unless you ascribe some sort of divine connection to those creatures, there is no religious dimension to monogamy other than a cultural norm. Many old testament leaders had and many Muslims still have multiple wives.

Now as for whether atheists oppose polygamy, I do for the following reason: Evidence indicates that the largest majority of polygamous relationships has been and will continue to be one man with many wives. This will mean that there are many young men who will be left out of the marital loop. Men like that, with no hope of marriage or children, will lose hope in general and be more likely to find their lives meaningless. This is bad for society.

What's more, I'm a gay man, and I have always been monogamous with my partner.

Monogamy is not a religious concept, it's a female concept. It's an outdated one at that. Very few people are actually monogamous any more, in the younger generations. There's no need for it with condoms and birth-control. Why would you want to be tied to a single person for your entire life, when there are so many to set free?

*edit*
I have NEVER heard of an atheist saying that morality comes from religion. Human beings are social creatures, without the 'instinct' of morality we would have died out years ago. Sexual 'morality' is not something we are born with, it's something that we are taught. Centuries ago living without it would certainly mean death, but as I pointed out before with condoms and birth-control, there is no longer any need for it. My view on this subject, while not popular, does not make me an 'immoral' person. It makes me an honest one.

Exodus 20:14 Do not commit adultery.

Matthew 19:9
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."

Matthew 19:19
Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.' "

Matthew 15:19
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Matthew 5:28
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Do as the Lord has commanded. I can't even deal with you atheists petty problems. Its repulsive; turn to the lord!

**Also, when you were married, at the alter it was for you and your wife/husband to stay TOGETHER forever. The minute you see another women, you are breaking that vow.

I am not an atheist, and I approve of Polygamy. I see nothing wrong with it as long as Every one involved is alright with it, and EVERY one is an adult.

I am engaged to a man I love. But we have had other long term relationships with other women. We were involved with one woman for... well.. it was a long time. Over a year, and we all loved each other deeply. Family tragedy, and circumstances beyond our control separated us, but we all still care about each other deeply, and keep in daily contact.

I think if all partners are concenting to it, and do care about eachother.. whats wrong with that?

For me, it's a matter of respect and love for my mate. Philosophically, I think cultural and religious suppression of women and their relegation to sex objects and second-class citizens is abhorrent and unjust.

I have no problem with combinations of men, women, men with women in polygamous relationships, as long as there are no inequalities, abuses, mistreatment, or dominance that are not fully acceptable to all parties without coercion or violent enforcement and suppression.
